Effect of weight loss on BG

I'd definitely check what you are eating if you are trying for a low carb diet. Apple crumble, even without added sugar, is not going to be low carb.

Such a long time and am permanently worn out.

I have entirely cut out starchy foods such as potatoes, bread, rice, etc., and it has had a big effect on my blood sugar levels (for the better). I know it can be hard, but when you are talking about your health and having the energy to do things with your family (I was just too knackered all...

    Defatizing with Herbalife by Kenny

I've just read through your thread here, Kenny, and I am cheering you on! I'm trying something similar, and after a few weeks of being strict, I've had friends to stay and fallen off the wagon myself. I intend to get right back on though. Tomorrow is another day, and all that. The main thing I...

    Defatizing with Herbalife by Kenny

Re: DAY 6 I'd try and swap milk for unsweetened soy milk, if you can. Soy milk has a quarter the carbs of cow's milk. Just make sure it's unsweetened, as the normal/sweetened is actually worse than milk for carbs.

    Defatizing with Optislim by Patch

Brilliant fasting readings, Patch. I've been knocked off course a bit by having visitors to stay and eating out :( I'm determined to get back on the wagon though.

    Defatizing with Optislim by Patch

Congratulations Patch. I am doing something similar, but using Atkins Advantage shakes as one shake has just 6g of carbs. I am replacing 2 meals a day with the shakes and having a low calorie/carb, freshly cooked meal in the evening. I wanted to make sure I was still eating fresh food...

Defatizing info and links 800kcal diet

I'm having some success on this diet (see my full experiences on my blog - address below). I haven't seen Optifast locally, so I am using the Atkins Advantage shakes for two meals, and a calorie/carb-controlled evening meal (home cooked). It's generally working well, but I've had a dodgy week...

    Diabetes UK recipe

I was shocked to get the latest Diabetes UK email newsletter, and see that the recipe of the month was barbecued fruit with icing sugar! Could they have come up with anything worse?

    Bread!!!

I find bread is the worst food for sending my blood sugars up, and try to avoid it all together. I've been using Atkins crackers as a substitute. My wife says they taste like cardboard, but they are better than nothing!

    Chia Seeds

I've used chia seeds in a low carb porridge mix, and had no problem with them. I did read that they are the latest miracle food. All I can tell you is they are tasty in my porridge :)

Will YOU ask your Dr for the 600 cal diet

The study states that the participants returned to a normal diet after advice on healthy eating and portion control.

Will YOU ask your Dr for the 600 cal diet

Hi Pianoman - I wasn't aiming my comment at you, I apologise if it seemed that way. I've just read all the threads on this subject, and my comment was a result of reading a number of, in my opinion, hysterical responses by people who hadn't even taken time to read the original paper. It's also...

Will YOU ask your Dr for the 600 cal diet

I find it disappointing that people with no medical background dismiss the findings out of hand. I have no idea whether this will work long term or not. On the other hand, going on a diet for 8 weeks seems a pretty easy option vs accepting the continuing progression of a condition that will...

NO more test strips in Bucks!

My repeat prescription for test strips came back with a note with high lighter pen over it saying "don't use regularly. Only when I'll." I'm in Stirlingshire. The reason I test every morning is so I can correct my blood sugar if it starts creeping up, so that I don't get I'll

Will YOU ask your Dr for the 600 cal diet

I'm not asking my Dr. So far I've been very unimpressed at how much my GP and practice nurse know about diabetes. My opinion is that I should educate myself on the subject and make my own decisions. I started a 600 calorie a day diet just over a week ago, and am writing up my experiences on my...

    600 calories to "reverse" Type2

Given that my blood sugar levels have risen significantly this year, and I am due to be put on yet more medication, this study is of interest to me. I work in scientific research, and having read the full paper, I can understand the thinking and methods behind what is being tried. 8 weeks at...

    Gliclazide is it that bad?

Hi Chrissie, I was diagnosed as diabetic 2 years ago, at the age of 40. I had blood sugar levels hitting 12-14 mmol just before I went to bed. I managed to get my HBA1C down to around 7.5, mmol of 7-9 before bed by following a low carb diet and exercising more regularly (although not as much...

    Metformin and Prednisolone effects

Hi All, I was diagnosed with T2 about 2 years ago (with a bs of 17mmol) and have followed a low carb diet (after reading Dr. Bernstein) since then, along with increased exercise. This has been fairly successful, and I was regularly getting readings of 7-8 mmol for waking and before bed. My GP...
