    Injecting hurts

It's injecting in one site that will cause painful injections. Try alternating round your body like I do. Left arm, Left leg, Left side of stomach, Left buttock, then start on right side. I've been on insulin since 1977 and never suffered from painful injection sites. Sent from the Diabetes...

    DAFNE Carbohydrate System

I've been over dosing my insulin by 90 units every day for nearly 16 years until I went on the November DAFNE course in Birmingham. It was my so called GP diabetic doctor who put me on the doses and in 16 years put on 10 stone. Since the DAFNE course my diabetes control has greatly improved and...

    ketones - do you test?

I've been a diabetic for 35 years and like you never tested for Ketones until I attended a DAFNE course in Birmingham and was given a Glucoman LX. I've been told by the DAFNE nurses only to check for Ketones if my blood sugars are above 14 mmol. I've had no trouble adding the Ketone test...

    free prescriptions

Re: free perscriptions I always thought all diabetics were medically excempt from perscription charges although after reading your comments I now have my doubts. I think you should talk to your doctor and say to him that testing now will reduce the cost of medication in the future due to...

how high and how low have you been?

The highest I have ever been is 30mmol after a day at work without taking any insulin with me. The lowest I've been is 0.2 mmol. This was during the night after being brought round from a hypo in my sleep !

    What meter/monitor do you use?

The hospitals and diabetic nurses are now advising patients to use a blood glucose monitoring system that measures your blood glucose and ketones. I have two good ones which do both. The first is the Abbott Freestyle Insulinx which diabetes.co.uk are giving away free to patients. The second one...

    Man problems !

Yes mate have just been diagnosed with same problem. Viagra is ok for Type 2 diabetics I've been told. But the consultant I've been seeing has told me that type 1 diabetics often need much stonger drugs. I kept my problem quite for over 14 years but now I'm beening sorted. Its all due to nerve...

Do you guys actually tell your employers you are diabetic?

Re: Do you guys actually tell your employers you are diabeti At any interview or application form usually asks if you have any medical condition or illness. If you fail to disclose this information and they find out at a later date ( if you have a hypo or they see you injecting yourself) they...

anyone with over 100lbs to lose?

I'm afraid I'm like you. My BMI is 47 and I've been told I've got to loose weight to. Problem is I eat less than my 8 year old daughter. I also need bilateral knee replacements and have been told by the consultant that he will not replace my knee joints until my BMI is less than 35. I've just...

    DVLA Revoked My Driving Licence

I feel so sorry for you.Yet again its another organisation putting another nail in our coffins.I do hope you get your driving licence back. Note to everyone don't tell the DVLA the truth in future. I am the same as you and only have the odd hypo at night. When my driving licence comes up for...

What do you least like about diabetes?

The thing I hate about my diabetes was back in the 70s you were not allowed to take your HGV licence so my job I always wanted to from a child, a lorry driver went out of the window.Back in 1970 we were stopped doing a lot of jobs and had restrictions with our car insurance as well.

    Sick and Tired !

I've been a type 1 diabetic since 1977 and in all these years worked and never had to claim DLA. Diabetes if you look after yourself should allow you to live a normal life. It is annoying to hear people going on about benefits they are trying to claim. Claiming more benefits makes people think...

    Which meter do i trust?!

I too had that trouble with the verio iq.Mine was reading 1.7mmols higher than my other meters. I mentioned this to my dafne nurses who told me just to use either the Glucomen LX plus or the Abbot Freestyle insuLinx. Both of these are more accurate than any of the other monitors and they also...

    Increase in hypos

The first thing I should say to you is don't drive until your hypo awarness has been corrected. The police will charge you for driving under the influence of drugs and then the DVLA with cancel your driving licence. I have just attended the DAFNE course held once a month in most parts of the...

    Bedtime high

This is a very high dose of fast acting insulin you are taking just before bed. Is the blood glucose a one off or do you have a regular high BG before bedtime.if you do try splitting your background insulin to 2 injections a day. If you don't normally have this high BGs you may have...

    Occasional weird problems

If your body was rejecting the insulin it would do this to your glucose levels all the time. My honest opinion is I don't think the insulin pump is right for you. My friend had the same proplem with his pump and his diabetic consultant in the end put him back onto what I'm on. I have 2 baseline...

    symptoms of diabetes in children

I'm sorry to tell you this but your son does have a lot of the early signs of uncontrolled diabetes. Had you noticed if he was drinking a lot more than usual and going to the toilet more frequent.Another sign is your son may have a lack of energy. If he is diabetic don't worry,I've been diabetic...

    Concern

All precriptions should come in a sealed package or sealed box. I would advise you to take the pen back then ask your doctor to give you a repeat precription for a sealed box os 5 pens instead.Any drug which is opened and unsealed should not be dispensed and your pharmasist is at fault there.

    Blood tests query

At my last HbA1c test they ask you if you have fasted or not so I think it does not matter either way.

Work and diabetes - does your diabetes hold you back?

Your wife could take action against your company for discrimination because of her diabetes. Diabetes is not a illness and the sooner companys realise this the easier it will be for all of us.insurance companies discriminated against diabetics until the mid eightys and now they cannot call...
