    HbA1C

I've posted previously about being labelled as prediabetes because of my blood sugar level, my most recent test in February 2025 showed it had risen to 46 mmol/mol (6.4%). I'm extremely active and fit, I don't eat UPFs, pastries, pizzas, cakes, cookies, biscuits, pasta, potatoes, candy, sweets...

Weight, or body composition and distribution.

There seems to be little discussion of body composition and distribution. the focus seems to be primarily on losing weight, not reducing fat and gaining muscle. I know from a DEXA scan my body fat % and it's distribution. If I were to shed weight it's probably going to be more muscle than I'd...

    Undiagnosed

In response to an article in The Times on undiagnosed diabetes Professor Tim Spector tweeted this "One million adults live with undiagnosed type 2 diabetes and about 5 million with pre diabetes and the U.K. has NO public health policy to deal with it and says our food advice is fine", When...

Increase in blood sugar as a function of age

    Triglycerides:HDL - Insulin Resistance

My understanding is that the ratio between triglycerides and HDL is a good proxy/surrogate for insulin resistance. My ratio is 1 (both are 1.4), which suggests I have good sensitivity to insulin. My fasting glucose morning prick tests are normally in the range 6 to 6.4, perhaps a little on the...

Interpretation of BG prick test results

I'm recently diagnosed with pre-diabetes having had a Hba1c result of 47. I bought a prick tester and used it for the first time today on waking, after 12 hours of fasting it was 6,5. This afternoon I tested immediately before exercising (5k on a RowEreg) and it was 5.5 three hours after eating...

    Confused

I recently had a blood test in the UK at my GP for Hba1c and cholesterol at my request. I was surprised when the results came back and showed my Hba1c to be 47. Surprised because 4 weeks previously in the US another test came back at 41. I had the second test because I wanted to see if after a...
