Help please - how to deal with people's perceptions

Hey, I'm wondering if some of you can offer some advice, really struggling with this... Was diagnosed type 1, after a bit of a faff - and am just getting round to telling people as was just trying to deal with it myself first... Was at a place where I kinda felt ok with it - I'm not insulin...

Hello - so, just been for a run - 1st one in a couple of weeks as was lowering carbs and calories further and didn't have the energy to run during the transition - anyway, have upped calories again so have the energy, though carbs slightly lower than before (were about 50, now about 30)...

    Sooooo hungry! Normal...?

Hey peeps, I'm following a low carb, high fat diet - which is keeping my blood sugars nice and stable - but am increasingly famished by the evening... I don't really understand why, as though my carbs are low between 30-50g a day, my calories are between 1,200 and 1,500 - and my fat is usually...

Dating & Diabetes - how to get the two 'D's' to work togethe

Hey there... So this may seem a trivial question, but how do you navigate diabetes if you're a single gal (or guy!) who's actively going on dates...? I've been asked on a few dates lately, but completely stumped as to what to do or say when it comes to the recent diagnosis... Should I mention...

Just watched this - might interest...

I just watched this as recommended by a nutritionist friend of mine... yes, its fairly drastic, and no it's not for everyone - but either way if you're looking for ways to reduce/avoid meds it's worth a watch - then you can decide what you think :-) It's in two parts... Part one...

Link between dairy and type 1

Have very recently found out I am, in all likelihood, LADA (1.5), which I've posted about here: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=42369 Anyway's, was very, very upset/distressed - so my coping mechanism has been to read and research - have basically spent 48 hrs reading! Thought you might like to know a...

Help please - freaked out - is GAD indicitive of Type 1?

Help please, freaking out re GAD results Hey there, So I've just been to the GP and he advised me that my GAD result is extremely elevated. I was diagnosed with diabetes three months ago, but because I'm not very overweight (my BMI is normal, though I have too much belly fat) and relatively...

Do you give in to cravings?

Having ridiculous cravings for tahini since going low carb - could literally eat half a jar in one go!! It's not every night, but on the nights (like tonight!) it happens its really hard to resist! Have no idea why - I checked the carbs and even half a jar would only be about 3g carbs so its not...

Advice on what it is that makes diabetics slower to heal...

Sorry for the possibly slightly ignorant question, but I'm assuming the reason some people with diabetes have to have amputations is because wounds don't heal proeprly and then they become infected... does anyone know why this is? What is the reason is that we have less capabilities to 'heal'...

Interesting article in Guardian today on reversing Type 2

http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/ ... -diet-cure He's used the Newcastle Diet, though I have to say I'm experiencing similar results using low carb, medium protein and high fat for the last week; Obviously it's early days but I've been pretty stable in the 5's throughout. Anyone have...

How to get fats without protein?!

Hey all, I've managed to get my carb count down to about 50g per day, which is *finally* seeing a loss in weight and even blood sugar readings through out the day - yay! In all my experimenting I realised that I was probably having too much protein before, which were causing spike (I think...

Interesting article on low carb and insulin resistance...

Just reading through some info on low carb diets / ketosis etc (as in the process of lowering my carbs further as still not losing my very stubborn belly weight!) and came across this article... as I know there's been a few threads on how 'good' low carb is lately, thought you guys may find...

Blood sugar readings - what's more important?

S'cuse the possibly overly simplistic question, but is it most important to keep your blood sugars stable all the time, or is it OK (within reason) to have highs as long as your blood sugars are back in range within 2/3hrs? I read someone somewhere posted something about an 'arc' - and that it...

Readings Better After Sugar - V Confused?!

Hey all - OK, so yesterday I went to London to a fancy schmants restaurant - was v nervous as it's the first time I've really eaten out since diagnosis, plus I knew it would be an extravegant meal and didn't want to be the rude/difficult one by saying "I can't have x/y/z" etc... so I decided...

Ability to handle carbs at different times of day?

Hi there, I just wondered - have you noticed that your body is better able to deal with carbs at different times of the day? It seems that my body can handle a very small amount of carbs at breakfast, so long as I have plenty of protein/fat at the same time ie I can have one slice of rye bread...

Better to eat little & often or three square meals?

Hi all, Quick q: do you find your overall blood sugars better if you eat, say, every two hrs or so - or if you stick to set breakfast, dinner, lunch? I was doing breakfast, snack at 11, lunch, snack at three etc but in the last few days have just been sticking to main meals and my sugars are...

    When to take Bitter Melon?

Hi there, I received my Bitter Melon powder in the post today, but though I can find lots of info on how it's good for blood sugars, I can't actually find the best time/way to take it? I've seen one or two references that it's best to have a teaspoon in water morning and night, is this correct...

Hi there, I'm a newbie to the site, diagnosed (with Type 2 they think, though still waiting on a couple of tests to confirm absolutely that not Type 1) about 8 weeks ago.
