I've only been at this gig for a year, but already I've pretty much lost the physical symptoms. The first I know about it, is when I get to about 2.5 and feel wobbly.
I munch down 5 glucose tablets and wait ten minutes. That's it.
I gather that chocolate is a poor choice for hypo treatment as...
Uh-huh. I had an explosive episode a few days ago. Testing when low, hit a sweet spot and was showered with a fine spray of blood. In Sainsbury's. Nice. :)
I only started this thread as a joke. Sorry about that.
However, I have been low carbing for a few weeks now. As an experiment.
It's been great in terms of my numbers - Rarely out of the normal range, fewer hypos etc, but I'm still not convinced that it's a sustainable option for me. Carbs...
Anyone else struggle with this?
I've always been a bit of a miserablist, but the overwhelming depression that I got after diagnosis was... well.. overwhelming. It crept up on me.
I THINK I'm keeping on top of it now, but you never really know.
We all have different metabolisms, and therefore insulin requirements. I've met people who take 5 times as much insulin as me.
Just find it interesting to say it all out loud.
It's all a blooming mystery to me.
I'm really confused by that, Fergus.
When I'm no-carbing I don't need any rapid-acting insulin (novorapid) at all. The Lantus seems to do the job.
Does Humalog work differently?
Sorry if this has been covered before, but I feel terrible about using these things so much.
How many do you guys get through?
I do maybe 50 a week - mostly testing around hypos. I really want to cut down.
Hi TishTosh,
Not got anything to add. Just thought I'd say 'welcome'.
Give it a day or so and I reckon someone more useful will turn up.
Take care, and all that.

As of last year (or something) they're supposed to go back to your GP for disposal - but there is a fair bit of uncertainty and resistance to this idea. No one wants the hassle. You CAN phone the council to come and collect them, but this means you have to be there when they call.
I've been on one. It was brilliant. Not, perhaps, for its intended reasons (dose adjustment and carb counting) - More for the opportunity to meet and discuss things with people in the same boat. Rather like this forum in that respect.
