Hi everyone,
Looking for a bit of advice, if possible :)
Has anyone had a situation where their GP practice has stopped prescribing your usual medication? I have been on Gliclazide since the rigmarole of my diagnosis was sorted out. I have to admit once my HBA1C dropped down I started taking...
I can wholeheartedly relate to this, it's like every little niggle we have is solely due to being diabetic! However, on the flip side, I've just been diagnosed with tendinopathy - and I had no idea diabetes was a risk factor and has implications for healing until I stumbled upon an article online!
Hi everyone,
Has anyone got any experience with tendinopathy and diabetes? I've just been diagnosed via MRI with gluteal tendinopathy. I also have hypermobility syndrome - which means my collagen fibres are a bit stretchy anyway. Anyone successfully healed theirs and how did you go about it...
Hi,
I need to arrange Anti GAD, Islet Cell abs and U+E (abbreviations on the form) tests done. Does anyone know if I need to stop my medication before having these done?
Thanks,

I'm not sure it encourages obsession, I think some people just 'like to know'.
If someone's glucose levels are running high or you are newly diagnosed then the information can be beneficial and to a certain extent it will benefit them to be obsessive about managing their condition and finding a...
Have you seen a Consultant yet? If they are unsure, ask for a C-Peptide Test and a GAD antibody test. This should help clarify the type. It is possible that you simply don't quite 'fit' into any of the known types.
Yes I agree constant testing is a pain, but if you can build up a good picture...
Another update. . I have now changed GP's and have a referral to see the diabetes consultant.
My glucose levels are showing a definite rise in the evenings, when I increase the amount of carbs I eat, usually rising from around 5-7 before dinner to between 10 and 16 a couple of hours later...
I agree with the link between amount of carbs and stomach issues. I went onto the SR version quite quickly due to my stomach, but even now I can have a couple of days a month where it disagrees with me! It is certainly worse if I know I have had quite a high carb day.

I think I may be one of the lucky ones as my local area does offer counselling for diabetics. Mostly the focus is on common issues.. e.g. health related anxiety, frustration/anger at diagnosis, issues with controlling your glucose levels - e.g. diet. I have recently been trying a form of Heart...
I've just received an appointment for mid January to see the diabetic nurse at my practice. Will try and make an appointment with a different GP to chase the referral to the consultant, as it was recommended that I was referred by my kidney consultant. My current GP has thus far seemed quite...
Just a small update. After a couple of months of numerous blood tests and hospital trips.. my kidneys are functioning normally again. The consultant at best theorises I had some kind of virus that was affecting them.. and now it has gone!? I'm having another follow up appointment in February to...
I have not changed my diet that severely, merely reduced my carbs, eat more suitable veg and included more fats in my diet. My protein levels have remained fairly consistent. He has said it is in no way related to the diabetes. As far as I am aware once kidney function has been lost, it cannot...
So following my nephrology appointment.. it appears I have non-diabetes related kidney disease. My kidney function has dropped from 82% at the end of July to 68% on Friday (latest set of bloods). Another set of tests are being organised to try and establish what is going on. Just what I needed...
I'm actually around 42-43kgs now, I wouldn't say he is that concerned really. I'm still in a normal weight range for my height. My Dr does not support LCHF diet, they subscribe to the healthy plate which is too many carbs for me personally as I do not want to increase my medication at this age...
Hi everyone,
Just an update. My Nephrology appointment has been rescheduled to Monday, instead of the end of October so I have been rushing around trying to get bloods done in time. A little worried but I'm trying to stay neutral and see what they say. They are also running a HBA1C which I am...
