Libre availability - update from local Asda pharmacy

Finally picked up 2 sensors today from my local Lloyds pharmacy after a 3 week wait, and a week after my last sensor ended. Must be time to request a repeat prescription.

Freestyle Libre and time change error?

I changed to a new sensor this evening slightly before the old sensor had expired and left the old one in place. I started the new sensor with my iPhone and did the first scan after an hour. I did about another 6 scans over the next few hours. The readings appeared on the daily graph as normal...

    Cold weather

Yes, I find that both very hot and very cold weather affects my blood sugars. I reckon my body must react to the cold a bit like as if I were taking exercise.

    Ramipril & Insulin Sensitivity

I've just started on 2.5 mg Ramipril daily and I've had to cut my Levemir from 18u twice daily to 12u twice daily to avoid hypos. The effect on my blood glucose was immediate, after just one dose of Ramipril. It does appear to be a rare but known side-effect. It will be interesting to see if...

    Insect Bites

Good question, and I don't know whether the insect (or spider) bite itself is worse for diabetics. But I do know that since having diabetes any insect bites seem to get infected very easily and then the infection has run riot, needing a course of antibiotics to clear it up.

    Please help me.

Re: Please help me... Hi Nick Sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time. Those readings of yours are very high so it is great you want to do something about getting them down. You don't say what long-lasting insulin you ate on, but I have found the key to good control is to get that...

STATIN USERS - QUESTIONS and ANSWERS

Statins and pancreatitis I have read that one of the rare side-effects of statins is pancreatitis. As I became diabetic through acute attacks of pancreatitis, I'm assuming I might be more likely than most to suffer from this side effect, so am not taking statins. Are there any alternatives to...

    Are you a Egghead?

I was a contestant on Eggheads a couple of years ago and I really didn't like CJ. :| The rest were very friendly though :D My favourite no-carb lunch is poached eggs on spinach. Yummy!

In store cafes and nutritional info

Food stores such as M&S always have carb content shown clearly on their pre-packaged sandwiches and salads. Am I alone in finding it a bit annoying that pretty much the same food sold in their cafes has no nutritional info?

    Sharps Box Disposal Nightmares!

Re: Sharps Disposal - Help Needed I get my sharps bins on prescription. The pharmacy says that it won't dispose of the full bins. I think the surgery doesn't really want them either, but as I pass the door on the way to work it's pretty handy for me, so I leave them with the receptionist, smile...

    Injecting in Public

I usually inject discretely in public. I'd been injecting at my desk at work for 5 months before the person at the next desk noticed! I have two young children and I inject in front of them all the time, and I have explained exactly what I do and why. My oldest, who is 5, even reminds me to take...

    Tamiflu and diabetes

The Health Protection Agency did a small survey (not published, I think) of schoolchildren prescribed Tamiflu as a preventative measure when the virus first hit schools. It found that a fairly high proportion of children did not finish the course because of the side effects. Unless someone...

    Could she have diabetes???

Hi there I have hereditary pancreatitis too - though I'm a 43 year old man not a 3 year old girl. This must be a really worrying time for you and your family, particularly as your daughter is so young, so my thoughts are with you. I had my first acute attack of pancreatitis last year (the...

type 2 due to chronic pancreatitis

Hi Bookworm. I have diabetes as a result of three episodes of acute pancreatitis last year. The first time I spent 3.5 weeks in hospital. I went straight on to insulin after my most recent attack. I take 13 units of Levemir a day and between 4 and 8 units of Novorapid with each meal, depending...

    ORAL THRUSH - HELP PLEASE

I sympathise with you. I had it a couple of years ago, before I had diabetes - or at least before I was diagnosed with it. I remember that it took quite a long time to clear up and it left me feeling really drained. It is certainly worth going back to your GP.

    Pancreatitis, then diabetes

I'm taking the Levemir last thing at night, so I wouldn't be surprised if it runs out towards the end of the next day.

    Pancreatitis, then diabetes

Still alive and kicking, thank goodness. I'll try lower carbs and see what happens. I must admit, I don't know a lot about the creon therapy either - except that it works. Cheese gives me big problems, but not sure whether it is the high protein or high fat that causes it.

    Pancreatitis, then diabetes

Thanks Becca Yes - things have been pretty bad recently, but life goes on. I'll see how things go on the job front, but will take some legal advice if all goes pear-shaped.

    Pancreatitis, then diabetes

Hi everyone I'm 43 and live in London. I have been diabetic for about 3 months now. I was very ill with a severe case of acute pancreatitis last year, keeping me in hospital for nearly a month and off work for ages afterwards, followed by a couple of further milder episodes. Nobody knows what...

Leg Cramps and High Blood Glucose

I used to have really bad leg cramps at night before I was diagnosed. Now my BG levels are much lower, the cramps have gone away. I do sympathise, because I know how painful they can be, but I think getting your BG levels down is probably the only answer. I did read on a web site somewhere that...
