    Type1

Also, hypos can result in a release of sugars from the body later on. So not giving the insulin would result in a double high after the hypo. I've been type 1 for 33 years, was diagnosed at 11. Even now ideas and treatments change, I've recently gone onto the pump so even terms like basal and...

Basal Adjustement and Bolus effect - help and advice needed

I have been fasting to get basal levels right. So no food or insulin and test every hour or so, then make changes according to the trends. A couple of days of fasting should show a pattern. I cracked fasting in the morning til lunch. But the afternoon is tricky, you've gotta have lunch maybe a...

Overactive Thyroid and Type 1 Diabetes

I had overactive thyroid 20 years ago, I went from 9+ to 7 stone very quickly. I don't understand the thyroid glucose quote, but I was very hyped twitchy and sugars low as I was always on the go. I had treatment and was left under active which is controlled with thyroxine well. Good luck with...

    Test strip limiting

My surgery allowed me 200 (which isn't enough for me at the mo), my understanding diabetic surgery nurse went on to the computer and upped it to 300. To be honest there may be a lot of diabetics not testing and wasting them, I'm sure a call to the doc and they will increase them for you ?? Misty x

Type 1 Critical illness with life cover - Rejected ... Any suggestions ?

Just to say my life insurance quotes a year ago were 200% loaded. I have life insurance on my previous house so left that in place but house is only half the value of this one - fortunately hubby has the better job so if I pop my clogs he could still manage on the lesser pay out. Not much help...

I know I can't be having any bollus in my system so a slice of wholemeal toast and no insulin is the way to go with racked up bollus and a few units basal should kick it into touch. Next run Sunday morning (hate that trying to control dawn phenom too). Much better to run at the end of the I...

Is Slimming World healthy and effective for those with diabetes?

Slimming world is the only diet my doc would actually recommend. I've done it a couple of times but you will need to save half your sins for those darned hypos !!

    Pump bubbles?

I watched on YouTube tangerinediabetic flick the filled reservoir whilst still attached to the vial, so when I say flick, use a biro and give it a good ole go, bubbles come away and rise to the top of the reservoir so you can then squirt them back into the vial. Also I have the Medtronic and...

    Type1 training for a Marathon

Elydave, I don't use a heart rate monitor, I had one for my old garmin, I'm not sure if it will work with my new one but I shall investigate if you think it will help to understand heart rate. All I know is I've lost my fitness so it's all a struggle really so the 6.5 miles tonight at 9.20 pace...

    Rising blood sugars whilst exercising

Taken from: http://www.diabetesselfmanagement.com/nutrition-exercise/exercise/exercising-with-an-insulin-pump/ The type of exercise you do can also cause blood glucose level to rise (albeit temporarily). A short period of intense exercise, such as heavy weight lifting or sprinting...
