The AccuChek (aviva expert) monitor & Time Blocks?

My 9yr old has this meter but I'm not sure where all the instructions are as everything has been squirreled away in various random places to make space for Christmas. I will try having a look for you in the morning, if not boxing day. He has had the meter for a couple of months now and it has...

Can anyone actually feel their Blood Sugar Rising?

I always can tell when mine has a sudden rise. I feel really sluggish, quite often my head feels thick like a bad cold and my sinuses burn. This isn't permanent or a sign of a slow rising or maintained high, just when it goes from normal to high over a small space of time.

New to the forum, not so new to diabetes!

Hi. I am a type 1 and suffer with an eating disorder. I spent 15 months as an inpatient which got me into a safe-ish regime but mostly just switched my habits as I learnt lots of 'tricks' on the ward. I have had my ed for 24 years and am currently in a state of major relapse. If I can help...

    Son taken wrong insulin

It's obviously rocked the boat a bit as 2 hours after lunch (tomato soup, 2 slices bread, yoghurt), his bm shot back up again to 17. He didn't correct but did substitute is snack for water. Still high on return home, so corrected and had an hour out playing and last bm 4.3. Will still be...

    Son taken wrong insulin

We did over do it on the carbs. His initial bm after eating was 16, but then dropped to 11, then went back up to 16 again. I'm not sure what the next couple were because my husband dealt with it, but he was high this morning so he had light breakfast with correction dose and had a lazy morning...

    Son taken wrong insulin

For a sandwich, he would normally only require 1.5u on his cho ratios. He has gone to bed with a very round tummy and we will just check on him a lot tonight. First time I have ever seen him struggle to eat.

    Son taken wrong insulin

My 9 yr old has just taken 5 units of act rapid, instead of his levemir. His bm was 8.5, which is average for bedtime and at this level still needs a bedtime snack. His sensitivity ration is 1u:3mmol, which means 5 units should bring his bm down by 15mmol, which is obviously disasterous. For...

    Pump Therapy

I was on the pump and found it to be really brilliant. The cannula never fell out, even when twisted in the funkiest way during the night if you are a tosser and turner like me! I regular would also forget about it when getting out of bed and it would swing out and smash into the wall and...

9 yr old moving onto QDS insulin.

Thank you for your replies. He has been offered the pump, but really doesn't like the idea of it and he has reasonable awareness of what it involves as I was on it for a few years myself. But he feels that as most of his activities involve him flying mid-air and crashing about or involve water...

9 yr old moving onto QDS insulin.

Hi, not been around for a long time, but I hope some of you may be able to give me some practical advice? My son was diagnosed type 1 in June, just before his 9th birthday. He has been managing very well, highlighted by his first post diagnoses of 7.3 (baseline was 13.something), so good drop in...

    Diabetes with Eating Disorders

I don't mind it being hijacked! Just hope that maybe some people who could benefit from the info get to see it. My husband is actually applying for a press officer job for DWED, as he is of course very passionate about it. I saw my own diabetes nurse today, which was great (meant a day out...

    Diabetes with Eating Disorders

Some of you may remember me, probably mostly from a negative point of view as I think I was deemed pretty much a pain in the ass and was mostly told to pull my socks up, though also recieved much help and support from many. I am now 9 months into an inpatient stay for my eating disorder and...

    the advantages of being diabetic.

Unless of course you work shifts for the NHS, then on a good day, you get to go to the toilet once and a single 30 minute break. Otherwise, its a matter of sneaking stuff into your pockets that you can snaffle as and when you need to.

    Ketones confusion

Thanks Ken, I do understand all that, I just don't get physiologically why at blood sugars of 25+, I no longer seem to get the ketones. My dsn has checked with various consultants and they cannot explain it either. I have since discovered that if I have the occasional bolus and bring my BMs...

    Ketones confusion

Not posted in a while. As you all know, my control is not good, and we have been there before, so this post is not about the whys and whats of that, and am getting apropriate help. But, my sugars run extremely high, but I seem to have stopped producing ketones a lot of the time. I can have in...
