Hi everyone!

Just joined today, but have been diabetic 15 years next month - type 1. I've always really struggled with my diabetes, but I finally feel like I might be getting somewhere. Unfortunately, 15 years of out of control sugars has done me no good and I now have background retinopathy, and the beginings of neuropathy.

I'm a student social worker in my third year and for my dissertation I am doing a research proposal around diabetics with eating disorders (in particular looking at diabulimia), so I'll be keeping my eye out for posts relating to these sorts of issues!

My partner is also type 1 diabetic! He's not quite as pro as me though as hes been diagnosed 10 years. We're both on MDI - he has 4 a day and Im on 5 as I split my levemir dose.

Hope everyone's ok and I hope to speak to some of you in the future on this forum :D

Hello Sparkle Fluff,
I'm a newly diagnosed Type 2, so still struggling to work it all out! Sometimes its hard to accept that it won't go away if you ignore it. I am sorry to hear that you are developing other problems, but we can't turn the clock back. I don't know how long I had developed T2 and there is a little niggle at the back of my mind that I may have damage, but if I dwell on it, it only upsets me. So I think, 'well, your time starts now' It's now that's important so just do your best with it. Oh dear, I hope I'm not sounding preachy!
Good luck with your dissertation and nice to meet you :)

Welcome aboard i am Martina from BC Canada, i am a type 2 diabetic for 6 years and i am on Lantus Insulin twice a day. i also have neuropathy in my left foot and left leg.

hey Sparkle Fluff,

I'm also t1 (21 yrs) and also doing research on diabetics - good for you. We need diabetics in diabetes research! Would be great to hear how you are doing. Having the condition you are researching gives you a unique and incredibly valuable insight, don't be afraid to state that upfront in your dissertation!

Im new today. Its so nice to finally have other diabetics to talk to I feel like im going crazy at the mo! have been diabetic 26 years (since the age of 7) and have recently undergone laser on my right eye & am about to have the same on my left. Finding it all very upsetting as I found laser quite painful & im concerned about having laser in my early thirties, therefore will I need lots of it in the future. I thought there was only ever so much laser you could have. Would be nice to talk to people re lifes hurdles & decisions!

Hi.

I am a type 1 and suffer with an eating disorder. I spent 15 months as an inpatient which got me into a safe-ish regime but mostly just switched my habits as I learnt lots of 'tricks' on the ward. I have had my ed for 24 years and am currently in a state of major relapse. If I can help you with you research in any way, I'd be more than happy.
