Flying to U.S.A.... Help Please :D

Hi there. This was a question I asked myself before I departed on the 3 week holiday to Utah I'm just about to return from. All the websites advocate a GP's letter. Mine charged me £15 for the pleasure as it's "not medical" (confused by that statement as they put me on the drugs I'm on - not...

How did you feel about switching onto injections?

Just been told that my pancreas is operating at 50%, so tablets not doing what they should (after 4+ years of trying). So insulin injections to begin early February. Nervous does not come into it! :? Hopefully that should help - just need to get mental side of diet and eating to resolve! Will...

Wholemeal (Brown) bread or Wholegrain bread?

Always remember that a lot of "wholemeal" breads (especially supermarket ISB (in store bakery) ones - i.e. no ingredients listed) and some big brand ones are made using white flour with sugar added for colour! My uncle, a former master baker, struggles to understand why sugar needs to be added...

Type 2 and Aloe Vera Gel

Thanks wellwell1212. I certainly know what you mean about the itch that a gent gets (makes me look like an over enthusiastic italian waiter apparantly!!!). My 23st, non-diabetic (and where's the justice in that!!) friend swears by it. Makes him feel better all over, especially on the inside!

How did you come to be diagnosed?

Was lined up for another post rugby knee injury op when hospital spotted irregularity on my pre-op ecg. Went to GP who did fasting blood test on off chance. Was declared borderline at 5.6. Since diagnosed and put on medications never been as low as 5.6 in nearly 4 years!!! Average is 10. Has to...

Type 2 and Aloe Vera Gel

Question for you all. Has anybody used aloe vera gel, along with their medications (especially metformin, gliclazide and simvostatins)? If yes, have there been any negative side-effects?

    so cunfused today :(

Roxy44 - don't panic. I've been diagnosed over three years now and still struggling to work it all out! After 40 years of eating what I want it's a battle adjust. I've found cutting out gravy (of any kind) / using granules keeps BG low. Potatoes of any kind seem to act like a rocket to my...

    Breads

Thanks for all the replies folks - plenty more to look into, research and try. Glab I've got this forum to tap in to. Miles better than local NHS offerings!

    Breads

Hi Catherine - fair point. Guess I'll give it a blast, plain without spread etc, and take it from there. On my Desmond course they suggested that if we did want bread then go for everything that was high fibre and loaded with nuts and seeds etc. Again plenty of choice at ISBs, but no...

    Breads

How does spelt bread (with or without rye) sit in the table of good or bad breads? I have been told, can't remember by who, that spelt has a low GI (good thing!), but not sure if okay when baked as a loaf. Some supermarkets, i.e. Morrisons, do sell Spelt and Rye loaves but it is impossible to...

    Fluctuating BS Levels

Sue Thanks for that. Makes a lot more sense that what I'd managed to cobble together from internet, books, GP etc. Thinking it might have been the 3 stubbies of beer I had in the evening (250ml bottles). :( Keep trying to maintain food diary but not sure how much detail I need to go down...

    Fluctuating BS Levels

Hi My name is Cris and I was diagnosed as Type 2 in December of 2008 (just my luck – a week before Christmas!!). Since diagnosis I have struggled to maintain my sugar levels and remove sweet tooth addictions. My local GP surgery is helpful, but not exactly supportive (my annual review has now...
