    Diabetic life expectancy

There was a piece in the Daily Telegraph a while ago. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/science/science-news/12017112/Worlds-first-anti-ageing-drug-could-see-humans-live-to-120.html I have been on the max dose of metformin for years so I should be good for 150 LOL.

    Diabetes and dental problems?

Unfortunately in the UK being diagnosed as diabetic in itself has no bearing on whether you receive free dental treatment or not. Free treatment is only if you receive means tested state benefits or have a certified very low income and limited savings. I have had endless dental problems since...

    Testing Strips....

I think the people at the Department of Health think it is sorted out. The latest NICE Guidelines Dec 2015 say that Type 2s who are not taking medication that is likely to cause hypoglycaemia should not be routinely prescribed test strips.

Did I have Type 2 at the age of 6?

A few years ago I attended a talk by a Paediatric Diabetes Consultant and she said that the very small number of Type 2s she had in her clinic were exclusively of Indian Subcontinent ethnicity and that T2 was almost unknown amongst children of European ethnicity.

    Victoza/Liraglutide

Anyone taking or a got any thoughts on Victoza? I started on it just over a week ago and had no bad side-effects so far. But I have been bit worried about all the negative stuff written about it on the internet.

How did you feel about switching onto injections?

I have been injecting Victoza for just over a week. The anxiety of thinking about starting to inject was a lot worse than actually doing it. When you realise you can hardly feel it and there no blood or anything it is really nothing.

Type 2 can i end up on insulin ?

7.4% is near the borderline level for escalating your treatment to stuff you inject. They will usually try you on Sulphonyreas if you are not too overweight. Victoza and Byetta which you inject are also tried now as alternatives to Insulin for type 2s. I am in much the same position as you...

    VILDAGLIPTIN

Are you taking other diabetic meds and what sort of numbers have you got with it? I've been on Sitagliptin for few months now with metformin which I was already taking and the improvement in BG has been a bit disappointing. I have also been gettin a bit of runny nose and sneezes which I think...

    Sitagliptin

I've been taking Sitagliptin in addition to Metformin now for 3 months and the results have been a bit disappointing. I still consistently have a pre-food BG of over 1 mmol/ml higher than when I was taking Metformin alone about a year ago. Anyone else taken this. Did it make a significant...

Lancets - how often do you change them?

I change them every test as per the instructions. Since I get them for nothing and can have as many as I need there doesn't seem much point in not doing so.

What blood glucose monitor do you use?

I use the Abbott Freestyle Freedom which I think is no longer available. The current versions are the "Lite" models The good thing about this meter is it will work with the smallest sample of blood. The only couple of other meters that have been used on me in hospital needed a bigger drop of...

    Is diabetes causing erectile dysfunction?

If you have doctor who thinks his mission in life is to save the NHS money it sounds like it is time you found a different one. If you are diabetic you are entitled to Viagra and similar on a NHS prescription for which you should pay nothing if you are taking diabetic medication. I think the...
