    T1 Travel Insurance

I'm currently insured through Direct Line (Type 1), and always go for an annual policy. I think I pay about £150 a year for both myself and my husband (non-diabetic) Unfortunately it is a bit more expensive but I guess they have to cover themselves as complications can be really expensive -...

To pump or not to pump....?

Unfortunately we have to self-fund the CGM bit. It's funny cos when the reps came to see us to let us choose our pumps, the hospital was all "don't go for this one because of the CGM etc...it's not that reliable, blah, blah, blah...." - Then as soon as I've bought it and they know I'm pregnant...

To pump or not to pump....?

Lol, thanks guys! Last night was better - I was on a split dose of Levemir before (32ui at night and then 12ui when I woke up) as this was the only thing that limited the surge after breakfast. Am sticking with a flat basal of 1ui/hr at the moment and am fasting whilst checking my 1hr glucose...

To pump or not to pump....?

Hi Meela Thanks for your post! Well, I started properly yesterday (they gave us homework over the weekend before letting us get connected up!), and while the morning and afternoon went well, after dinner and this morning was not fun! I've been up every 2 hours to test basal levels through the...

    Unexplained BS from Frappucino..

Hey Jo If I can have Frappuccinos then I'll start meditating too!!! Seriously though, the cream on it would have slowed the absorption of the carbs so that would have been steadier.....apart from that, I am SO jealous!!! I used to love them but now have to mnake do with a slurp of my...

    Very varying insulin requirement

THANK YOU!!!! I also thought this was just me this happened to. It was only when I kept a diary for a month - testing, food etc that I determined a pattern. As soon as my period starts my sugars and insulin requirements plummet. The two weeks before however are a total nightmare. I feel...

    Diabetes At Christmas

Mmm trifle!!! Try making it with sugar-fre jelly as a starter, and use only berries for the fruit (low GI). Also, there are some great reciped for low-sugar cheesecakes (my husband actually prefers them....or at least he says he does!) As people say - lots of alternatives! ma5on

    Hi

Hi Claire Congrats on your fab results!!!! :D Now, how did you do it?! I've been struggling to lose weight for ages and have become really despondent about it ever happening....all the hospital tell me is that insulin doesn't make you gain weight! Any advice? :D ma5on

    Orlistat

Hi Bunty I was prescribed this by my GP about 3 years ago (I only wanted to lose about a stone, so not sure why!). However, like timewarp says, I didn't lose an ounce either. The side effects are so gross that you end up eating virtually no fat at all to avoid experiencing them. Problem with...

    worried

Hey darko123 What annoys me is PE teachers assuming that you would WANT to use diabetes as an excuse to get out of lessons!!! Where do these people get off, eh? They're PE TEACHERS not God!!! (Rant over!!!) :) Ok, as they say, it sounds like you're taking too much insulin. You need to...

Low Testosterone - Type 1 Female

To pump or not to pump....?

PMSL - I was notorious in my uni days for dropping my phones down the loo (text junkie!) so I can just imagine what might happen with a pump! Can also imagine my OH rolling onto it in the night - I already have to elbow him regularly when he dares venture onto my pillow (divorce...

Stuboy, Candi-Girl THANK YOU!!! Stuboy - Only just read your response as I thought my thread was dead, so thank you for taking the time to share your experiences!!! Candi-Girl - It's been great to hear a woman's perspective on this too as I know it sounds daft but I really wanted to hear...

    high nightime readingd

Sounds like you could also do with learning to count carbohydrates.... Try keeping a diary of what you eat and the insulin you do to cover it. Take this to your DSN and they should be able to help you work out your carb to insulin ratio and that will help you adjust your insulin accordingly...
