I have joined this forum to try to get some info as my mother is a type 1 diabetic and takes injections twice a day she recently has suffered from a "hypo" nearly every day ...recently she retired to bed as normal and my father accompanied her, during the night she seemed to "hypo" and to quickly get her out of it my father gave her some chocolate .
this usually works ok.ut not this time!
this is the problem: she seemed to drop into a hypo but for some reason has not woken this was three weeks ago she is now in hospital on an insulin drip and glucose/saline drips. she feels pain and can feel any touch, her legs move all the time and her arms go through many motions , she occasionally will open her eyes but shows no sign of reference to anyone or her predicament ....needless to say we are baffled... more shocking is the doctors are mystified as well , she has had ct scan all ok..had another ct scan all ok..ecg all ok she just won't wake up ...anyway my question is... has anyone on your forum ever had any experience of this kind of thing ? the doctors seem to be waiting for something to happen which is frustrating to us...it feels like they may know what is wrong but will not tell us ? here's in hope .

Hi there,
I am afraid I have no answers for you, but did not want to simply read and not reply. I am so sorry for all the worry you are going through and I hope your mum 'wakes up' soon. My older daughter has twice had very bad hypos in the night that resulted in her lapsing into unconsciousnessness, but fortunately in both cases she came round again fairly quickly once we treated her. So as I said I'm sorry I don't have any advice or answers, but hope your mum recovers fully soon.
Best wishes
Sue

hi there and welcome,
im sorry ,i too cannot help you but hope you find some answers soon and hope your mum recovers :)

Hi there,
I am so sorry about your mum! I don't know alot except my mum is type 1, I can remember something like this happening when i was 15 years old! She was out for i think it was 1 week!
She could feel pain and also touch! I sat with her and read her a book while holding her hand from time to time! I found this helped me as much as i think it helped her!
Right now you must be scared and feeling very alone! You can come here and talk to us all! We will all offer you the support that you need!
Sandy

Three weeks has turned to four but it seems that there is no hope ...apparantly the hypo (due to a failure of being aware of going into one ) was so violent that she has had oxygen starvation and because of the 3 fits in a short time... the doctors have diagnosed brain damage and all that is happening is the body is slowly shutting down...as a family we have agreed that if another life threatening episode occurs that resuscitation is not an option as she would not be any better so please look after yourselves out there and watch the insulin and medication carefully as you can and I wish you all a long and happy life.
