Hi Roody, I am currently challenging mine and it is in a status of "on hold". I sent an email to the BSA and they have been very good at responding. I have copied the email thread I have had with them so others can use the same arguments if necessary. I would at this stage recommend emailing...

Thanks Pip and Dan. I think I will do as you suggest and use both your responses to draft a letter. I have a suspicion that I might never hear from them again though, and it may just go quiet. Will let you know how I get on.

Hi all, Just a quick update on my case, it is still locked whilst the situation with ‘lifelong’ Medical Exemption Certificates is investigated. At this stage though the BSA are not budging and provided me with a very long email to indicate that they could see my point of view but they have no...

I liked this post a great deal. My only addition is that it is a shame there is no appeal process with the automated letter. I have a response back from the BSA to my 'feedback / appeal' email which I will post here when I have had some time to digest its contents.

Ytak - easier said than done I know but try not to let it get you down. I am sure in your case they will hopefully waive it. First just get your doctor to call you and fill in the exemption form. Get them to add some additional notes on it to ask for leniency etc... especially given you are...

    Type 1: Prescription fine

Update on my situation I have appealed to the BSA and they are processing my request. I recall being given a paper copy of an exemption certificate when I first attended University back in 1992. I don't seem to remember it having an expiry date back then. They have requested that I send them...

    Type 1: Prescription fine

Hi Tim, I have no issue with what they are doing, it is only right. And I fully agree that it will save the NHS a huge amount of money to pay for other services. My main concern is that they are also targeting people who have a genuine case and have never tried to buck the system. I would say...

You will need to yes, they are only valid for 5 years apparently. Which considering it a chronic illness would seem completely ridiculous that you need to do that anyway, it is a waste of time for us, the GPs and the Business Services Authority's time.

Hi Liz, £24.15 for the prescription. £100.00 penalty charge (which is calculated as 5 x prescription charge, up to a maximum of £100.00) NHS are recouping funds from soft targets, the lady I spoke to said they had never checked them in the past and are now doing so!

Hi all, I have just received one in the post, for £124.15...needless to say I am not that happy about it. I was told by a lady on the phone a similar story to others here, you are entitled to free prescriptions but only if you have the medical exemption certificate. I have never been asked for...
