    Advice on symptoms in children

Thank you! I will definitely be getting her checked out, and will get in touch with JDRF. I know with myself it was over 48 hours that the thirst etc developed. I don't want her to get to that stage if it is diabetes. I think mums are often dismissed too quickly as being over cautious. X

    Advice on symptoms in children

Thank you all for your comments and good wishes. Her blood sugar this morning (fasting) was 7.7. I guess I'm concerned as silly as it is the the readings are high but a GP will dismiss them as her having eaten something really sweet etc. I can't find much on what a non diabetic child's blood...

Hi All. I'm a type 1 diabetic of 23 years. I have a beautiful little girl who is a week off her 4th birthday. Recently she has had multiple UTI's and after the last one hasn't got back to her old self, she has started bed wetting and her mood swings are terrible, she has poor concentration...

    Travelling with Insulin

A bit of an odd reason I guess I have IA and the arthritis in my right hand affects my thumb and forefinger quite badly they lick and don't bend. I tried lots of prefilled and pens that use cartridges but for comfort and ease of use it was oddly syringes that are most comfortable for me to use...

    Travelling with Insulin

Thanks Tim, to be honest I have never had a problem in Europe but I use syringes now instead of pre filled pens for my basal injections and just wondered if it was any different. Tim2000s what documentation do you carry if any?

Having a hypo and trying to look after my 6month old

You've had some great advice. As for the nurse you saw I understand how you feel!! My daughter was three weeks old when I had a hypo resulting in unconsciousness. Luckily my mum was with us. I had no warning signs. As a result I have a habit of over correcting or letting my blood sugar run a...

    Is Diabetes a "selfish" condition?

Looking after yourself isn't selfish or self indulgent for anyone whether you are Type 1, 1.5, 2 or not diabetic at all. Being diabetic for me means I have to be self aware and not forget about myself when putting the needs of my daughter and husband first. But it's not to the detriment of...

    Need a kick start...

Seems like I'm endlessly trying to explain/justify/defend hun. Mostly I try to ignore it. I'm just having one of those days today, just getting it off my chest helps ☺️ I'm glad there are supportive partners out there - that's good to hear x

    Need a kick start...

Morning I woke up this morning with that " today is going to be the day feeling" I do every so often and I plan to nail my diet, refresh my exercise and just be more pro active about managing my blood sugar rather than relying on reactive insulin dose adjustment. The thing I struggle with is...

    Lost Motivation

Hi Meg. I'd give your diabetic team a shout and have a chat with a nurse sometimes a fresh pair of eyes helps when you have been doing battle with making adjustments... Even when you are competent at it. I love the term 'diabetic fatigue' I think we all have phases where we get fed up with the...

What was everyone's blood when they go diagnosed?

    42. I was twelve years old. My GP was amazed I was still conscious. I spent two weeks in hospital. The thing that sticks in my mind is the unbearable thirst. I was getting up in the night to go to the toilet and drinking water out of the toothpaste cap out of desperation and not wanting to ask...

    Stuggling with my diabetes ?

Hey Danny, I'm 34, been diabetic 22 years and I still sometimes forget.... It will become habit and sticking with it and getting your long term levels under control is worth it because then it's ok to have an off day, that extra pint or donut! I use a BG istar when I'm out to test my blood...
