Is it possible to reverse diabetes?

I've had non-diabetic hba1c readings for 2 years after losing 55kg and completely changing my diet, but I in no way consider my diabetes reversed (just kept at bay with careful control of what I eat and lots of exercise): If I have a few too many carbs my blood shoots into the teens and I feel...

    Eat Well For Less (BBC1)

I was just watching it but turned it off in disgust once they started spouting the same old "carbs good, fat bad" mantra

Chocolate 4.6g carb in 25g bar

I tried the Aldi chocolate a while ago and absolutely hated it: it was incredibly bitter with no real depth to the flavour. My chocolate treat of choice is Lindt 90% (1.4g of carbs per 10g square so pretty much the same as the Aldi one) which I think tastes delicious and I find 1 square is...

    No more meds!

Well, I finally managed to get a printout of my results and they definitely make happy reading! When I was diagnosed in November 2014, my HbA1c was 107 - It's now 38! Also, my Cholesterol is normal (4.5 with a ratio of 2.7 and trigs of 0.6), my Liver function is normal and my electrolytes are...

    No more meds!

My doctor reduced my meds down to a single metformin 500g last year as my HbA1c has consistently been in the "non-diabetic" range. After my last one was also in this range (I don't currently know exactly what it is because I had to request my results in writing before they'll give me them and...

There is a cure.. how come nobody does this?

You keep saying this, but again I think you're mistaking having a non-diabetic fasting blood reading as being the same as reversing diabetes, which it isn't Reversing diabetes means you would have a normal response to carbs/sugar (e.g. A glucose tolerance test): I've seen no evidence that all...

There is a cure.. how come nobody does this?

I think you're conflating having a non-diabetic FBG reading with "being cured" - they're certainly not the same thing: I've not had an FBG in the non-diabetic range for years because I carefully control what I eat but if I ate what non-diabetics can typically eat then they wouldn't be like that.

There is a cure.. how come nobody does this?

I have my diabetes under control - fasting blood in the low 4's and keep it below 7 by eating carefully I weigh 66kg, have a 29" waist and a body fat percentage of 9% Am I cured? No, because If I eat even a small slice of pizza, pastry or mashed potatoes my blood shoots up into the teens To...

Has anyone tried Vida or MyFitnessPal?

I love MyFitnessPal - I started using it a few days after I was diagnosed and have weighed and logged every single thing I've eaten since then. It helped me lose over 54kg and get my hba1c into the non-diabetic range It takes a bit of getting used to but after a while it's second nature and I...

Under 20g of carbs a day????

I did it for the first 6 months after I was diagnosed (sometimes as low as 10g carbs) This is a sample of my food for a day from that time: Breakfast Bacon, egg, pork and leek sausages (high meat content) and mushrooms Lunch Mixed Salad, cheese, chicken breast, mushrooms Dinner Poached egg...

    Recently diagnosed diabetes type II

Who told you that? I believe they're wrong as all diabetics should be given at least one foot and one eye examination a year (more if the patient is higher risk) free on the NHS

My dog has been diagnosed with diabetes today

They're currently recommending keeping her on her normal food which is a canned food with a (relatively) low carb content (around 12%) - dried food contains up to 70% carbs! We may have to alter her diet depending on how she reacts to the insulin but I'm very wary of "diabetic" food for dogs (as...

My dog has been diagnosed with diabetes today

Just as an update - the vets' finished the monitoring today but there's still a fair bit of testing to do as her blood didn't come down as much or as quickly as it should (high was 28 and it didn't come down below 14: should be between 4 and 8 for dogs) We're starting on 6 units of insulin twice...

My dog has been diagnosed with diabetes today

Yeah, you just take a drop from their ear and use a normal meter. Apparently you can get dog specific blood glucose meters but that's more marketing than anything

My dog has been diagnosed with diabetes today

Yeah, it was very high - Weirdly, that's exactly the same blood sugar reading I had when I was first diagnosed (I thought owners were supposed to become like their pets, not the other way around ;)) It's definitely worth having the lifetime cover - I think it was only about £5 a month more to...

My dog has been diagnosed with diabetes today

As an update - she's at the vets today having her insulin requirements determined. She had a full blood test yesterday which showed a blood glucose level of 24.9(!) but fortunately there are no other issues our insurers have confirmed coverage - up to £4,000 a year for her diabetes with no...
