Interesting reading - gp handbook info re diabetes

I agree. My doctor is so authoritarian and is like "do as I say or else". he never listens to my opinions and if I tell him of new research he simply poo pooh's it. I live in fear before every check up

    Hospitality and diabetes

I was a nurse and had the same problems with early/late shift crossovers meaning sometimes I was only in the house 7 hours before having to set off again. Also night and day shifts all in one week so my sleep and eating patterns were all over the place. Three days out of each week I had to...

    NHS

Just remember most of us have been there. I know how hard it is when you are caring for others to care for yourself especially when you have diabetes. I have found out through my own experience what an impact stress can also have on blood sugars. It is also especially hard to control your...

Not surprised you are feeling bitter I think you are entitled to be. In my experience if your life is complicated with multiple issues as mine has been before now too, then there is little help. My own doctor only likes problems with a quick fix for his own satisfaction. I understand how you...

    NHS

For those of you for whom it is working I am pleased for you. That is how it should work and it would be nice if it did that nationally. In my area the hospital got a cash injection and a senior doctor told me that the offices all had new computers and carpets although there was not much...

    NHS

Just like I said. Its a postcode lottery. To this extent the NHS ias already privatized. I am so sorry that you can't get the care you need. Yes there are too many BUSINESSES involved already. The whole thing needs to be re nationalised in my opinion then we would all get the same care...

I think peoples different experiences of the NHS is dependent on which PCT you happen to be in. This fact in itself should be an inkling that it is not a NATIONAL health service any longer and hasn't been since the DOH started giving individual trusts their own budget to manage. When we had...

Also can anybody advise me. It says on my meter information that it must not be exposed to X ray but they always tell me at the airport that it must be X rayed and that it will not harm it. I also have trouble especially with long haul and metformin as when I get there it is usually night time...

I do not think you can put your BG meter in your case as it will go in the hold and as I understand it there is a temperature range that they have to be stored at for proper functioning. I think it is the same with the test strips too.

    Let's have a grumble!

My problem is refusing large amounts of alcohol. We have some boozy neighbours who used to invite us to parties. I was always getting told I could not drink sugar free soft drinks all night and alcohol would not harm me. I was always the party pooper and of course they knew lots of diabetics...

    LCHF

Thanks. If the tide turns among the medical profession I wonder if my doctor will be on it. He is still spouting the thinking of thirty years ago when he trained and does not like his patients to take any decisions or responsibility about their own care. I am carrying on LCHF regardless as it...

    LCHF

Thanks. I am determined to get off the meds with the LCHF diet and prove him wrong although he said I will have to take them the rest of my life with an increasing dosage year on year. he is the type who does not like patient input and would rather dictate than have a two way conversation. I...

    LCHF

I went to see my doctor yesterday to discuss blood results. I have been on the LCHF diet for one month and was feeling great and lost 9 lb. I was hoping for some good results but was told over the three month measurement period for HBAC1 that my blood glucose had increased from last year. and...

    cinnamon tea

Thanks. I am getting to understand it now from the advice I have been given on the forum. Apart from the dizziness and foggy head at times, I do feel better on the whole from low carbing

    cinnamon tea

Well probably the pills are easier than dosing yourself with all that cinnamon. My tea states it contains vietnamese cinnamon and Indian cinnamon.

Thanks for that. I will do that and keep going. I did lose seven pounds in the first two weeks so it must be beneficial

    cinnamon tea

Yes I have read a lot of studies on cinnamon lowering blood sugars which I why I bought the tea. It seems cinnamon is effective but you have to be sure there are no other added nasties or sugars in commercial products. Probably best just to buy a jar of cinnamon and then use it in or on your food.
