    How do you handle depression?

I don't know about light therapy, per se. But, I do try to get outside every day in the natural light. That's the good thing about living in a bright and cheery part of the world -- the sun is always at your disposal! Glad your brother's making progress! :-)

What's the best way to give yourself an insulin shot?

I suppose I can try my upper arm again, but from memory, it pinched when I was little.

What's the best way to give yourself an insulin shot?

The needles are always different; depending on what the pharmacy gives me. They're very small and ultra fine, though. No, I don't have excess weight; I'm average. A little squishy in the middle, but not heavy. Just out of shape. I tried not pinching the skin up -- but it stings a little, so I...

What's the best way to give yourself an insulin shot?

I used to inject in my hip area, but after several years, it got all rough and weird-looking. I used to inject in my upper arm when I was younger, but it actually pinches more than my stomach! I've been using my stomach for many years now, and yes, I rotate. Every shot and a couple of inches...

What's the best thing for dry, itchy skin?

I actually used to use that Hemp stuff from the Body Shop and the Banana Boat one. I wasn't crazy about the smell of either one. And, it didn't really help. Thanks, though! :-(

What's the best thing for dry, itchy skin?

The thing about oils is, they make my dry, itchy skin .......... itchier! And, it stings a little. :-(

What's the best thing for dry, itchy skin?

I know -- and here I thought Aveeno was pricey! About the only time I ever used Eucerin was when my sister had eczema and her dermatologist gave her a bunch of free Eucerin samples! :-)

What's the craziest thing your doctor's ever said?

The way some doctors talk about oatmeal (err, sorry...porridge!) reminds me of a movie I once watched, called "My Left Foot." Have you seen it? Wonderful movie! Anyway...it's the story of Christy Brown, a boy with cerebral palsy born into a working-class Irish family. (His father's a brick...

    How do you handle depression?

I'm weaning myself off of Lyrica for severe nerve pain in my feet because the Lyrica is doing terrible things to me. Aside from the weight gain, drowsiness and memory loss, it's making me very depressed. I find I have suicidal thoughts a lot, even though I know it's the drug talking and not...

What's the best thing for dry, itchy skin?

I love Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion! It used to do a very good job of softening and soothing my dry, itchy skin. Actually, I used to get very dry, itchy skin on my hands around the fall and sometimes in the winter, for years. And now, I get very dry, itchy skin on my hands in the spring and...

What's the best way to give yourself an insulin shot?

I must be doing something very wrong, because I have really bad scar tissue around my (squishy) abdomen. I've been giving myself insulin injections for as long as I can remember; I always find a nice squishy spot (and plenty of it!), pinch it up and ram that needle in at a 90-degree angle. I...

What's it like to have a child diagnosed with diabetes?

I never had children of my own, but I was very young when I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I know how it felt for me (I thought I'd never be able to eat another cookie or brownie as long as I live!), but I can't imagine the mental anguish it must have meant for my parents. Especially my...

What's the craziest thing your doctor's ever said?

It was my 30th birthday and I went to see a highly recommended ophthalmologist for my retinopathy. He did some tests and in the end, I ask him, "So, what's the prog, doc?" And he says, "You have some active bleeding, but there's nothing we can do now. However, if you live another 5 years, we can...

Do you feel limited by diabetes?

You bring up a very good point about travel. What if you get detained for whatever reason and run out of insulin and testing supplies or they get spoiled or whathaveyou...how would that work? I don't travel, so I'm kind of curious. What if you choose to travel to a country that's not...

What do you eat before a workout?

I was leaning towards a banana (that sounds dirty!); figured it would be better than the porridge (err, what we here in the US call oatmeal) because the oatmeal 1) gives me really bad heartburn and 2) raises my blood sugar very high! I'm not really into fitness, maybe something very light, like...

How do you tell your family you have diabetes?

OMG! You hit the nail right on the head! That's exactly how I feel and that's exact;y what it is, no matter what anyone thinks! What you just said, it's so perfect, I'm speechless! :-)

How do you tell your family you have diabetes?

You're absolutely right! But, you know how it is. Think back to when you were diagnosed. Before you had time to adjust. How did you feel? How did your family react, at first? Were they all jumping for joy? Or, did it make them worry or sad? Sooner or later you have to face it head on and it's...
