    Retinal scan results frustration!

What exactly is diabetic maculopathy? I've heard of age-related macula problems, but never associated with diabetes. Is this another scary complication I should look forward to? :D

Sometimes forget if I've taken my Lantus!

Yup, done that - panic stations! :!: It's times like that when I thank God for Lucozade. :D

    Retinal scan results frustration!

Thanks for all the recent activity on this thread - I've been 'absent' for a while, but I'm back now. :D I still haven't had the full results of my screening. I saw a doctor at my diabetic clinic about 3 months ago (was just due to see the nurse, but asked to see a doctor) and he...

Hot bath = worst hypo ever?

Blood pressure tablets giving me swollen feet?

I get swollen feet, and I think it's due to the blood pressure tablets I'm taking - 10mg each of Ramipril and Amlodipine. I suspect it's the latter that's the actual culprit - I cut that one down to 5mg for a while and my feet seemed much better. I believe this is one of the known side-effects...

    No worries. :D Chris.

'Discussion' with my doctor about glucose testing

I probably can't give a good reason for every time I've been tested, beyond anxiety about what my BG is (whether I'm going low without really knowing it). I am testing much less often now, actually - yesterday only 4 times. But I went up to 12.3 at one point, and had to give a corrective dose...

'Discussion' with my doctor about glucose testing

Well, that's precisely why I've been testing a lot. :) I am looking forward to it. I just wish something like it had been available - or, if it was available, I'd been advised to go on it - when I was first diagnosed. But then, 'shoulda, coulda, woulda'...

'Discussion' with my doctor about glucose testing

But the problem is if you're losing hypo sensitivity, as I am, your body is not giving you adequate warning of when you're going low. Actually I'm due to go on a DAFYDD course soon, which I hope will finally help me sort out the relationship between my carb intake and insulin dose. I have made...

'Discussion' with my doctor about glucose testing

Thanks again to everyone for all the comments. One thing that I'm particularly interested in, however, which hasn't come up, is the possibility of alternatives to test strips. I seem to recall a news story from a few years ago about an electronic device that measured BG through the skin; there...

'Discussion' with my doctor about glucose testing

So how exactly do I do that? :?: :? I mean, I've been carb counting for about two months, and it seems to have had some effect in balancing things; but I'm probably still in the grip of old (and bad) habits. I want to achieve very tight control, and testing frequently has helped me do this...

'Discussion' with my doctor about glucose testing

Thanks Janabelle, I think I'm losing mine, and I did point this out to him. He said something like "Well you'll have to watch that, then." I feel a bit on the defensive about this whole issue, because I will admit that I've been testing too much. For years my BG levels would see-saw, and my...

'Discussion' with my doctor about glucose testing

I've always thought that you just test after you've had food, when you wake up and before going to bed. At minimum that would likely mean testing 5 times a day - but that would just be 'on average', because of course there may be times when you just do need to test more. Testing 3 times per day...

'Discussion' with my doctor about glucose testing

Well, not so much a 'discussion' as him telling me in quite strong terms that I'm testing too much, and that he can't tolerate me ordering so regularly. I admit I probably have been testing too often. But the doctor in the Diabetes clinic I saw last week told me that testing often is actually a...

Hot bath = worst hypo ever?

Hi again flojos mum, (This is momentarily off-topic!) I mismanaged my diabetes for ten years (diagnosed '99), and recently had a retinopathy scare which stung me into taking control of things. I'd just like to say that, with carb counting, I've at last got things under control... and I've...

Hot bath = worst hypo ever?

Hi flojos mum, I asked a doctor friend of mine, and it seems as if it's caused by a rapid drop in blood pressure induced by the heat. I seem to recall her saying something about the blood 'pooling' in the legs, hence (I presume) reducing the amount of blood - and therefore (I'm guessing)...

    Progress since my 'wake-up call'...

Hi everyone, A few weeks ago I posted for the first time, having effectively received a 'wake-up call' with regard to my diabetes care (see the post here). Well, I'd just like to say that my care has improved massively in the last few weeks, and I now feel on top of things. It still needs...
