Insulin resistance is not caused by a high carb diet... Some opinions

The discussion wandered on to other trails, so I wanted to return to the actual posts by Dr. Davis. His language is very inflammatory. He claims you need a "hazmat suit" to handle raw chicken. Please. I should be dead by now if that's true. He cites a lot of studies. I would like to work my...

Insulin resistance is not caused by a high carb diet... Some opinions

Phoenix - have you ever seen the "Bray Overfeeding study"? It's not directly relevant to diabetes but there were findings in it that were revealing about weight gain/fat gain that I do think can be extrapolated to diabetes/metabolic diseases.

Insulin resistance is not caused by a high carb diet... Some opinions

"It causes an insulin spike, but if no carbs, lowers blood sugar." Interesting. That would explain why, when I eat meat, my meter registers no change, but I lose no weight. Another reason never to go for simple, one-size fits all* explanations when considering something as complicated as a...

Insulin resistance is not caused by a high carb diet... Some opinions

I can relate to what you are saying. Do you have a meter? I recommend getting one highly. And don't be guilty about compromising your beliefs. Your health is what's important and weight gain is bad for blood sugars, period. At first I balked at the idea of "eating to your meter." I thought it...

Insulin resistance is not caused by a high carb diet... Some opinions

Right, and I bet there's a whole lotta other things that are, well, "unknown unknowns." The diet dogmatists always leave out what doesn't suit their agenda, don't they?

Newcastle diet starting Monday, done it once who gonna join me on my journey??

I agree about the 'heavy muscle building' - in fact I think it is not all it's cracked up to be at any age. Whenever I see pics of people squatting with heavy barbells I wonder what their knees are going to look like in a few years. And shoulders, and hips. I myself have two torn rotator...

Insulin resistance is not caused by a high carb diet... Some opinions

No worries. I've toyed w/the idea of being a vegetarian many times but I keep coming back to two things: 1. B12 2. I love meat.

Insulin resistance is not caused by a high carb diet... Some opinions

It's strangely appropriate. Unless you are Roger Unger in which case it would be "glucagon existence."

Newcastle diet starting Monday, done it once who gonna join me on my journey??

Steve, do you do resistance exercise? Sorry if you've posted this and I am making you repeat. The reason I ask is that bigger muscles weigh more, and sop up more glucose. In both sexes age makes it more difficult to add muscle (alas) but even so you can still put on muscle if you try, depending...

Insulin resistance is not caused by a high carb diet... Some opinions

Yes, I've read intensively about various traditional diets, diets that aren't necessarily traditional but they don't result in metabolic disaster, and they all have certain things in common: intake moderation, occasional fasting, and absent the massive ingestion of carb/fat combinations. By...

Insulin resistance is not caused by a high carb diet... Some opinions

I'm not a vegetarian. I wrote, "For the record, I am not a vegan, a vegetarian, or an adherent of any particular diet regimen."

Newcastle diet starting Monday, done it once who gonna join me on my journey??

Yes, I caught it early a year ago - 6.0 to 5.5 - and then backslid. Not this time. Nope. No excuses. (Like: we had a terrible winter, which we did, but that doesn't excuse the carbage binges and not working out in my home.) My morbid hobby is reading about what happens to full blown T2...

Newcastle diet starting Monday, done it once who gonna join me on my journey??

"He has never heard of ND, admitted he switches off when he hears fad diets," I can't say I blame them. I try not to use the "d" word with doctors. Instead I ask them if they have heard of the Newcastle Study. "Study" is a word they perk up at and must respect. I am going to ramp up my tactics...

Insulin resistance is not caused by a high carb diet... Some opinions

That is not true about Keys. This "debunking" has been debunked many times. Keys was a good scientist and only matched data that were comparable. For the record, I am not a vegan, a vegetarian, or an adherent of any particular diet regimen, except the one you can live with for the rest of your...

    Confused About Insulin Resistance

Yes, epigenetics may be one of the reasons the TO's have such a high diabetes rate.

    Insulin and glucagon: Roger Unger

Thank you for posting this. I had never heard of Unger. I thought I had it all understood. Now I realize I understand nothing. That's good. I need to learn more. I googled Unger and read intensively. It seems what he and UT are discovering dovetails with what Prof. Taylor uncovered about T2...

Newcastle diet starting Monday, done it once who gonna join me on my journey??

This is to Steve and "Living" - something weird happened to my last response and I can't be bothered to figure it out. I live in NYC and I can assure you that we are getting as averagely fat as the rest of the country. Averagely meaning a lot of 20-40 lbs overweight, "ought to lose a few," etc...

Very possibly. But my point is that the French for all their good eating habits are having a problem, no?

And my point about the French is that their supposedly better eating habits do not translate into better diabetes rates. I could go on an on about American eating habits. It's not just the supersized sodas. Go into a chain drug store and they have massive candy bars, for $1.79 right near the...
