    Foot questions

Hi, I'm a newly (6months) and currently diagnosed type 1, my doc says type 1 but I'm only using Lantus, my last H1AC was 4.9 and my endocrinologist is testing me for everything C-peptide, LADA, MODY etc. However, my question is concerning neuropathy and in-particularly of the feet. I'm...

    Exercise

For me it took some testing to find the best way to exercise for my body. Since if my BG was below about 5.5 then it would spike up to around 12-13 or higher. However, as long as my BG is above this before I start then it usually stays around that level or below. I now test about 30min before I...

    BG and exercise

I was diagnosed around 6months ago with some type of diabetes, still waiting on test results (a whole other story). Anyway I'm currently on Lantus once a day, 12 units, and If I go for a run and my BG levels are below about 6 then I'll spike to around 13 after my run. However, my HbA1c test last...

    1st hypo

I've found that my BG needs to be around 7 before any exercise, else I get a rise to around 14. As has been mentioned around here a few times a "liver-dump", according to my doc. So if I'm low I just take a drink of orange juice, around 15min before my run or whatever, and that seems to keep it...

    Test Strip Post code Lottery

Apologies for presenting the out-off date guidelines. Though to be fair the NICE recommendations on self-testing is still very open to interpretation.

    Test Strip Post code Lottery

Here is the link for the NICE T2 guidelines. Though after reading through the guidelines the recommendations are very open to PCT interpretation. "Assess at least annually and in a structured way: - self-monitoring skills - the quality and appropriate frequency of testing - the use made of...

**** advice from my diabetic nurse today

While I am totally for a patient being able to test their BG at home, I've found it really useful in understanding what foods push me over. I've just read through most of the NICE guidelines for T2 and they use very vague language concerning self-testing. The quote below is from their...

    Low-Carb Health Risks

Mice are used for a number of reasons, remarkable genetic similarity to humans, combined with great convenience ie they are small and inexpensive to maintain. Their short life span and rapid reproductive rate make it possible to study disease processes in many individuals throughout their life...

Confused! Is my doctors diagnosis correct?

I live in Spain at the moment and I was diagnosed without the OGTT. However, I was regularly reading 11/12 BG levels 2 hours after eating or exercise. Which seemed enough for my GP and endocrinologist. But as hanadr said with the numbers you gave and without the OGTT I'm not sure where your doc...

    Gastric band can 'cure' diabetes!!

I did find it kind of funny how this "newspaper" seems to pushing the idea that all diabetics are over-weight lazy people, who could cure their problems by simply slimming down to "normal" levels... I'll stop here so I don't start ranting about the standards and practices of modern news...

    Bruising

Hi everyone, A quick question, been diagnosed now for a month and injecting Lantus for about the same amount of time. My question concerns increased bruising. Actual Type no longer clear...

Hi I'm in a similar boat. Went in for an unrelated complaint, got elevated fasting BG and then again on the second one. I say elevated as I was only just above the "magic" number cut-off point! After the 1st result I brought a meter and found that I was spiking after meals, sometimes up to +12...

    Forum Suggestion

Hello all, Newly diagnosed, 2 weeks, currently on Lantus (10u in the evening) which has helped lower my morning numbers and my spikes after eating seem more controllable. Now my doc has diagnosed me as Type 1 and I have visit to the endocrinologist tomorrow that may or not change this and or my...
