    Tips for type 1

As a novice I could only suggest more exercise and better diet. I saw that you mentioned in another post that you don't eat during the day and eat late at night, that can't help. Low carb and plenty of exercise keeps me between 4-7 generally. I wake up 6.5-7.5 driven by the lack of activity...

    Tips for type 1

Hello, I am certainly no expert as I have only been diagnosed since September but how often do you test your BG? How many units of fast acting do you take per X amount of carbs?

Type one is EASY!! for me.

Hi Tim, I don't know if it the honey moon period or not to be honest. I discussed this with the consultant and he thinks not. Some days I will eat and my BG just won't be affected, even if i ate say Jelly Beans then other days the same foods will really affect the BG if i didn't take insulin.

Wonderful to hear this! Have either of you experienced any complications? (If you don't mind me asking!?) .... If not is this down to tight control?

    T1 diabetes in the family?

Hello! .... I was diagnosed in September, I was 30 in July. The first and only person in my family to have type one or any medical condition for that matter. Why some people develop it and others don't is a complete mystery.... we all seem to very good looking and intelligent though...

    Flu Jabs

Hello, diagnosed with T1 six weeks ago aged 30. Flu jabs are not something I would have really considered pre-diagnosis but I received a text from the GP surgery saying I am now eligible and I have read that we are more susceptible to flu. What are your thoughts on flu jabs? Worth getting? I...

    Newly Diagnosed eyesight changing advice

Hello, I don't think there is an exact science to this, everyones bodies and eyes are different. I have always had 'rubbish' eye sight and required glasses for tv, driving, meetings etc. Extreme blurry vision was one of the severe symptoms that I experienced pre type one diagnosis in July that...

    Post meal blood sugar levels

Yes I am trying to generally eat very healthy and low carb, I was previously very interested in body building and have a fairly good knowledge around nutrition. I spoke with the nurse today on the phone and she said my body is still getting used to the insulin injections. Forgive me, what is...

    Post meal blood sugar levels

Good evening, Just out of curiosity, what does everybody's blood sugar readings look like after one to one and a half hours post meal? Is it worth keeping track of these levels as they always shoot up to 10-14 for me. Will this cause me damage long term? Before meals I am keeping them steady...

Newbie Q: Lantus & Humalog taken close together

She asked when would be a suitable time in the afternoon for me to take the Lantus. As there was such a wealth of info being given to me and the slight shock of being told I had type one I just said 2pm.

Newbie Q: Lantus & Humalog taken close together

Cheers for your replies. Another question then would be, if I switch to before bed (11pm) with the Lantus will there be any issues having an eight hour (approx) gap the first day I change ?

Newbie Q: Lantus & Humalog taken close together

Hello, Recently diagnosed and started injecting about ten days ago. The nurse told me to take the slow release Lantus Solostar at 2pm and the fast acting Humalog pen three times per day with meals. I opted to take the Lantus at 3pm to give a little bit of breathing space from lunch time. I...

Diagnosed type 1 four days ago, couple questions.....

Hi, thanks I will take a look today. For anybody else reading this thread out of interest, the diabetes nurse phoned me today and talked through my BG diary. She has told me to increase the Humulog Fast acting from 4 to 6 units. This is the fifth day of injecting.

    Beer

I'm trying to not let it get me down, social drinking is my number one favourite activity. Hopefully I will find some drinks that I enjoy and don't raise the BG too high. Here's to the testing phase!

    Beer

The diabetes nurse at the hospital told me not to inject the insulin if I go on a night out as the alcohol will bring my blood sugars right down and to have a take away at the end of the night to bring them back up, (that was the best news all day). However reading various threads and bits and...

    Beer

Stella Artois has just 3 ingredients and is less than 0.5g of sugar per pint but obviously the carbs come into play. Alcohol lowers some people's blood sugars by all accounts, I'm still learning.
