Type 1 Going abroad with Insulin

Hi I am a type 1 and travel abroad regularly with insulin. I use a Frio pouch to keep it cool. They come in a variety of sizes some of which are suitable for insulin pens. The inner bag is surrounded by gel beads and this is left in cold water for around 30 to 40 minutes the gel expands and...

    Medtrum Patch Pump

Hi I’ve been using the Medtrum for four months, switching from the much more expensive Omnipod and have been very impressed. I also use the Libre and am getting 80% plus time in range since switching with only a small number of issues. Also Medtrum offer a smartphone app which I am using to...

Just to let this group know that Cellnovo have gone into administration and have ceased manufacturing, distribution of supplies and support for the Cellnovo system. All happened very quickly this week, Not surprised but very disappointed, when the system is working as it should it is very good.

Does anyone use an online pharmacy?

Hi Lorna You should get a message from the pharmacy to say it has been dispatched and for insulin the order is sent by 24 hour delivery and you receive a message from Royal Mail to let you know it is out for delivery.

Does anyone use an online pharmacy?

Hi Lorna I use pharmacy2you. Like you I had so many issues with my local pharmacy full filling my prescription. This either involved having to return two or three times to complete the prescription, usually joining a long slow moving queue only to be told that the pharmacist is on his or hers...

    Loss Of Choice

Had a DAFNE update meeting yesterday in Hull and was told that as from this week there will only be one pump available for patients in Hull & East Yorkshire- the Roche Insight. Previously we had a choice of 4 including two patch pumps Omnipod and in my case Cellnovo. Apparently the finance...

    Hiking with diabetes

Hi Rusne Well done I am a type 1 and last summer I hiked the first 140 miles of the Pennine Way combining camping and B&B. I am a pump user which made diabetes management easier, I reduced my basal rates by 50% on hiking days and a little less on rest days. I also used a Freestyle Libre for the...

    Omnipod

Hi The other option for a tubeless pump is the Cellnovo. I have used both and switched from Omnipod to Cellnovo 18 months ago. There have been more issues with Cellnovo than the Omnipod since its launch and many diabetes departments have stopped offering it, however in my opinion when it works...

    Pump Insurance

Hi Gary Is you son getting a tubes pump or a patch pump (such as Omnipod or Cellnovo)? The reason I ask is that the handset replacement cost for the patch pumps is much lower than for tubed pumps eg £250 for Omnipod handset and £500 for my Cellnovo handset and this is covered under usual...

    Omnipod question

Yes to that there are so many things to consider in addition to the pod falling off. I have had cannulas dislodging, pod errors, handset issues none of which have occurred regularly but a back up insulin supply is in my opinion essential. Good luck if you are considering/accepted for pump...

    Advice for Males who pump

Hi Chowie I am a male pumper, currently I’m using a Cellnovo patch pump but started on an Animas Vibe with tubing. As far as sleeping is concerned I found that it took me a few nights to adjust to wearing it but now (seven years on) I rarely notice it overnight (except for the odd alarm). For...

    Cell novo

Hi Brett Pleased to hear you will be getting the updated system. From what I’ve been told the communication should be improved, currently it isn’t very good also the strict 72 hour cartridge expiry will be modified to add several hours on, at the moment the pump stops exactly 72 hours even if in...

    Skin tac alternative

Hi Claire Both my sister and I use pumps and we both get Cavilon spray (28ml) on prescription which seems to work well. On the occasions when I can afford a Libre sensor I also use it for that and have never had one fall off.

Abbott Freestyle Libre discussion on BBC radio

I thought she described the Libre and its benefits well in a short slot and without a script. The presenter asked why blood testing wasn’t sufficient and I think she explained the shortcomings of single blood tests (ie no indication if glucose rising or falling with a single finger stick)...

Abbott Freestyle Libre discussion on BBC radio

Did anyone else catch the lady from Hereford area discussing her experience of the Libre along with a Diabetes UK staff member on BBC 5 live at around 11:30 pm last night? At least it has reached the national media albeit fairly late at night.

    Cell novo

Hi Brett I’ve been using the Cellnovo system for a year now (previously Omnipod and Animas Vibe), when it works well I think it is much better than those two. HOWEVER I have had lots of issues with it including cartridge failures, handset issues, communication issues. The helpline staff are...

    Pumps - totally confused

Hi I’ve been using the Cellnovo pump for nearly a year. I changed from Omnipod for a variety of reasons one important one for me is the ability to read the Cellnovo handset screen in bright light which I was unable to do with either the Omnipod or the Animas Vibe tubed pump I have also used...
