    Stomach issues no meds

I’ve just had a colonoscopy last month because of bleeding from the bowel. Since diagnosis I have been more constipated and had problems because I no longer drink fresh orange juice or eat licorice- my go to instead of laxatives. I’ve recently started on a supplement called Inulin. It’s a...

Does LCHF contribute to arthritis pain...?

Since my type 2 diagnosis I ve cut back on carbs considerably and in that time my arthritis has improved considerably. Don't know whether it's the low carbs or the weight loss or the combination of the two. All I know is that I have increased mobility and less pain in my legs. My hands are still...

My doctor doesn't know what to do!

I am about 60 kilos now, down from 78. Think my BMI was 19. I like being thinner but don't want to lose anymore.

My doctor doesn't know what to do!

Bless her, she probably is! She looked about 12. We had never met before and she obviously didn't know a lot about diabetes. When she started telling me to eat whole wheat pasta, I gave up.

My doctor doesn't know what to do!

Thank you everyone. I feel I need to continue as I am because I feel better for it. I do allow myself the occasional slice of bread and don't worry too much about that. I cut out all the usual sugary foods and drinks but kicked against giving up bread. I also have the occasional jacket potato...

My doctor doesn't know what to do!

20 months after diagnosis having cut carbs and increased exercise my blood test results show a normal reading of 40. I've lost 3 stone, am now borderline underweight but don't mind if I can keep my levels down. Doctor said "I don't know what we do now." She then asked how I had done it. Not sure...

Are you Diabetic or diabetic? Work with me on this one...!

I am diabetic and as a result I look healthier than I have for years. At a social event this weekend, several people commented on how well I look- no excess weight now and far less problem with arthritis. Two positives results of having to watch what I eat now this beast has reared it's ugly...

Diet controlled type2 Now have background Retinopathy

I was diagnosed type 2 last year and told my left eye showed signs of retinopathy a month later. I too am diet controlled and have to work hard to keep my levels under control. When I had another scan a few months ago it came back clear. They didn't explain how this had improved but it was a...

Why Cutting Carbs From Your Diet Is A Bad Move

I sat in a hospital ward last week while visiting and overheard a dietician telling a newly diagnosed type 2 to have half a plate of carbs at every meal. Obviously could not intervene but decided to talk to the patient at next visit. Unfortunately he was sent home and I missed the chance. I was...

    Leg and foot cramps

Thanks for all the advice. The last few nights were cramp free fortunately! I eat very little salt and I know I don't drink enough water so must start there. Finding it hard to concentrate on me as my husband is seriously ill in hospital. Don't suppose the stress helps either!

    Leg and foot cramps

Last night I woke up 3 or 4 times in absolute agony, with cramp in both feet at first then in one thigh, then back to the feet. I've never had cramp so badly. I am not on any medication and my levels are quite good. Is this likely to be diabetes related?

    Backsliding!

My husband is seriously ill with Crohn's disease, not diabetes. It's his friend who might lose his leg. I don't know how to convince this friend that the eat well plate is not doing him any good. His diabetic nurse tells him to eat carbs, so he does!

    Backsliding!

Just got back from visiting husband in hospital. Another visitor, who also has type 2 but didn't believe he had to cut carbs as well as sugar was telling us he's in danger of losing a leg. His leg is apparently weeping pus and is badly infected and he's been told it is because of his diabetes...

    Backsliding!

Yes, yes, yes! My doctor told me not too. I went for the code free meter and strips as I have to pay myself. Within a few days I found some foods were causing big spikes. The average the doctor gets every 3 or 6 months is not enough! Getting some really high readings might motivate you to want...

    Backsliding!

I too have fallen off the wagon this week. After a year of being very good, I am in the house alone while my husband is in hospital. It's too easy to have a take away or a ready meal. Like you, I know I am damaging myself but feel past caring. I tell myself I will start again once John comes...

Symptoms of nutrient deficiencies to watch out for?

I don't generally worry about supplements if I am eating well. However, a friend said a cinnamon tablet helps lower blood glucose levels so I might think about that

The effect of stopping treatment for Type 2 Diabetus

Stopping the heart medication without medical supervision is foolish, especially the warfarin. My husband has heart problems as well as other health problems and took lots of these tablets. Many caused him problems and doctors had to stop or change many of them. If I understand it correctly...

    diagnosed with type 2

Sorry you feel like you are in denial. I am sure we all have days when we wish we weren't diabetic. It's a year since I was diagnosed and it's a sharp learning curve at first. Take it slowly and don't panic is my advice. I feel healthier now than I did a year ago, my diet is much better and my...

Desmond course - worth using a day's annual leave?

It occurred to me that those diagnosed as pre-diabetic would benefit from Desmond. It might kickstart them in to making changes that prevent them becoming diabetic. Some doctors seem to think that can't happen but I feel sure it can or can at least delay things.

Desmond course - worth using a day's annual leave?

It's interesting that you got offered a monitor. The course I went on never mentioned monitoring your own levels and although encouraging us to read food labels, they said we didn't need to worry about how many carbs were in the food, only the of which sugars bit.
