Interested to know about others' LADA / T1.5 journeys

For some reason, it really bothered me that I know how I got this way, so I've done my research and pondered my past quite a bit. I'd always eaten properly and was relatively active and was skinny as a kid so my battle with weight made no sense until diagnosis in my 40's as LADA. I had a...

    Libre

I had the opportunity to try the Libre about a year ago. It was great. Helped me pin point my dawn effect (2am surge). There was some slight tenderness when first inserted but it subsided reasonably quickly. I've been meaning to contact my insurer to see if they still cover them as I'd like...

    Diagnosed with ADHD

Hang in there Patrick. I think this extra tablet will be worth it! It's made a huge difference in my children's lives (18 and 8). I hope it will to yours.

    socks

I get my socks from sockshop a uk website. I usually wait till I have $100 worth as shipping is free. The socks we have in Australia are rubbish, wear out and are expensive. They have diabetic socks too. These socks seem to have less elastic in the cuff so as to not mess with blood supply.

    Trying Inulin with meals

Two steps forward, one back. Lost another kilo but gained it back over the weekend. Thanks husband, thanks for the easter chocolate s) Still really enjoying taking the inulin though and enjoying feeling regular and actually emptying my bowels.

    Mental health

Everyone needs a professional to talk to from time to time. Talk to your GP. Medication helps but is often not enough on it's own. good luck

    LCHF after gall bladder removal

Having my gall bladder removed was a really good thing for me. I was prediabetic at the time but didn't know it so was carrying some weight. I lost weight initially, then gained about a year later. I had no problem with the consumption of fatty food, although I built up to that and I LCHF...

    Trying Inulin with meals

Day 4 - didn't feel as hungry this morning. BG was 7.4 not great but not bad as I had some chocolate last night. Still have a fairly clear nose and am in a good mood, feeling bouncy. Mood is interesting as I'm on medication for depression. Still having feelings of fullness and lost a kilo...

    Swede Rules

Lol - swede/suede I'll have to ad swedes to my list of root vegies to try. Down under we are coming in to autumn, perfect time for roasts! I'm also keen to try (and grow) jerusalem artichoke because of it's low gi and high inulin content - why it's often called fartichoke.

    Type 1 Thrush

Hi Joshluck, it does sound like you need an adult circ. Not the most pleasant to contemplate but a bag of frozen peas will help. It's important to be able to get in there to clean and, while really low statistically, will reduce cancer. While I don't own a penis, this is a mum of 3 boys...

    Trying Inulin with meals

Ok, I'm on day 3 of my unofficial inulin experiment. The 'gas' has settled down which is good. I think I'm eating less but the scales will reveal that. The best side effect has been regularity of motions. With all my medication, I was getting constipated. I woke up this morning and felt...

    Trying Inulin with meals

I've been on and off my 1000 calorie diet that the endo put me on. I lost a heap of weight and then put it back on. A few personal issues had me using food as comfort, but I'm ready now to hop back on the wagon - especially seeing Michael Mosely on one of our current affairs shows in Australia...

    Curry & Brown Rice?

Hi Kiwifrank, I just cook my cauliflower well (steamed in the micro) and give it some rough chops before I add the sauce. This works for me because I can have a takeaway with my family.

    Veggies and hunger

I find lettuce filling....at first but then it gets digested rather quickly. I add a lovely aldi mayo and make sure there's some carrot and cabbage sliced in there. I never have a salad without nuts either. If you're still hungry afterward - maybe a boiled egg?

LADA Learner . Any words of wisdom appreciated.

Hi Billy, I had a silly nutritionist argue with me about rice. I told her I'd cut it out. She said "you can still have brown rice" I said yes, but it still spikes me, just not as bad so I have well cooked cauliflower instead. "but you can still have brown rice".... she kept saying. Why bother...

    Advice

Hi Q, sorry for not replying sooner. Life (and mothering) has been busy! There are a lot of people on the forum who believe going on insulin early is the best treatment and I put a lot of stock in this forum. My personal experience with my endocrinologist is that my BS levels are not high...

    Advice

Hello Q, I am LADA and non-insulin dependant. I take Forxiga and victoza which help manage my blood sugar levels. I find managing LADA easier to deal with than my GDM. I was insulin dependant with my last pregnancy and my levels kept rising, not responding to diet. I also had a low while...

How long without insulin? A few questions

Oh, gosh, I was a solo mum for a while with 2 little boys. Yup! Absolutely understand. Even if all you can do is incremental things, that will help. I get off at one bus stop earlier. My building has stairs which I take if the meeting is a few floors away. I promise myself to always go for a...
