    Cold insulin

Depending on the insulin, I was told that it was because the insulin I use is acid based (Lantus) and this is the effect when cold. I take mine out 6 hours before I need to first use it, then all is good to go

    Type 1 - don't want to inject

Riksta, do you mind me asking, is it a case of not wanting to inject, or not being able to? I've only been T1d since November 15 and have major issues injecting myself. I've got novofine covers for my needles, I've got the smallest needle possible and I'm also on honeymoon right now, so only...

    Appalling Advice from my GP!

Holy mother. My DN would hit the roof of she heard my gp doing this. First rule I was taught, never reuse, ever. It's not just a case of hygiene but more so a case of the fact that we're diabetics and as cliché as it sounds, one wrong move would well be the last... it's unfortunately not a light...

    So upset right now :(

Oh I know the stand offs all too well. We're over them now but what helped with my partner and I was she read into diabetes a lot and the NHS actually sent her on a diabetes course that was scheduled just after my me being diagnosed, so that went down well too. She realised DKA, which is how I...

    So upset right now :(

Miss Mac I was exactly the same last November. My partner is a nurse so we luckily had an idea what was up with me at the time; but the emotion I can emphasise with you. It does get easier, and luckily you're in the right profession to get a higher level of support in my opinion. I won't lie...

Increase in blood sugars in the late morning for no apparent reason

Morning I had the same issue. My nurse said it may be down to the 'honeymoon' period where you become a little resistant to it due to your pancreas waking. She also mentioned it could have been the final get hours of lantus effect writing off. I've since moved my lantus to an AM shot and it...

    Can anyone recommend a meter?

Hi Emma I was diagnosed T1D in November and the hospital gave me a Glucomen LX+ Sensor machine. I've also used a few others and this is the best one I've used. A 500 test memo bank and does the obvious ketone checks too. Hope you find the one for you Phil x

    Diagnosed type 1 yesterday

Hi @Ryant , I'm on Novorapid and Lantus too. Diagnosed in November and an absolute inconvenience, haha. I know it's early doors, but how's it going? One thing I have learnt is to know how to use your blood meter to its capacity of uses, they're fantastic if you've got a good one. I've got...

Fed up now... take it back

@lizziewizzie I know how you feel. Diagnosed T1D in November. An absolute inconvenience as it seems and I've been up and down all over the shop since being diagnosed. I have good days and bad days, really bad days sometimes. My partner is a student nurse and almost knew I had diabetes before we...

    What Meter to go for?

I got a free Glucomen LX from my GP and another for my car from the Hospital. I've used this since being diagnosed in November and having only tried this it seems to be fantastic. Huge memory and plenty of features with it too. The strips come in 10 and 50 as far as I'm aware but I couldn't tell...

    Never had a hypo...

I generally feel like I'm heading low when I get <5.0 I hit 2.3 the other day as I was leaving the house with the dog... worst thing ever experienced. More so than being drunk I would say. I fell over myself, jumped back up, looked around for spectators and couldn't even focus on anything, so...

    Newly diagnosed T1D

Evening all, I'm a newly diagnosed type 1 and just looking for any advice I can get really. It all started end of October with what I thought was a flu. A week of working through the dreaded 'man flu' and my student nurse girlfriend said she thought I was diabetic. See, my flu had me up to the...

I was diagnosed in November, 29. Painful 2 months of my life, mainly because my nurse of a girlfriend has been saying "told you so" ... for 2 months...
