Diagnosed type 1 yesterday

Its a horrible diagnosis but better health to follow with the right meds (insulin).
I fought tooth and nail to stay off inulin but I would fight thee same now if anyone tried to take it away from me.

Tell us more about yourself. Your after meal numbers, your insulin and your typical diet

After my meal tonight I was 19 .9 that's the highest I've been and my insulins r novo rapid and lantus.

Hi @Ryant and welcome to the forum.

It will take days, even weeks to get your bg stable so do persevere, just keep a detailed bg diary of food eaten, bg levels and insulin doses and your diabetes team will advise you on adjusting your insulin.

Sorry to see you here man.

my first protip would be to eat low carb until you get used to injections and all this new stuff.

The less carbs you eat the less your blood sugar will change and the less serious any problems will be. ie - you likely wont end up going to 19 again.

Agreed.

As noblehead suggested keep a written diary of times, insulin doses, levels, food eaten. Test regular too make sure your not having to much insulin that it causes hypos. As for highs approach with caution as when I was newly diagnosed would have massive drops in levels when my body decided to work in between having insulin and packing up altogether. Have a fast acting sugary drink to hand to correct any lows. As for dietry changes you will learn what works for you and wouldn't make too many changes At once until seeing your dsn and getting your levels stabilised. Any questions feel free to post.

Hi @Ryant , I'm on Novorapid and Lantus too. Diagnosed in November and an absolute inconvenience, haha. I know it's early doors, but how's it going?

One thing I have learnt is to know how to use your blood meter to its capacity of uses, they're fantastic if you've got a good one. I've got the Glucomen LX plus and it bleeps when I've to check and keeps eye on my patterns too, amongst other things. Got it free from my diabetes team hope all's well.

Plenty on here to get me started with my new hobbie
I too share the combination of Lantus and Novorapid! Welcome to the forum.

The people here will be more than happy to help you, good luck with it all!

I was diagnosed Type 1 in August - on Lantus & Novorapid. Low carb eating & regular exercise are really helping me ( & as others have said - lots of testing to learn the effect of different foods on my blood sugar levels). It does get easier!
