    Unexpected Rise in the morning

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm now fairly convinced i've just got a mild bug/infection going on. Feel a bit sluggish today and my gut feels a bit bloated. I've adjusted my bolus to increase today's levels by 50% and so far it's holding steady under 6. I'll be monitoring it very closely all...

    Unexpected Rise in the morning

Thanks for the response. Actually I've had a few twinges in my gut since posting this. So i'm thinking i've got a mild infection or eaten something slightly dodgy for breakfast. Probably that and combination of lower basal and no exercise. Although I had hoped daily walking would keep me topped up.

    Unexpected Rise in the morning

So I'm a little confused this morning. I awoke with BS of 7.5. Much higher than i'm used to, it's normally between 3 and 5 in the morning. I had my normal breakfast of protein. Eggs, prawns and some nuts and a green smoothie. Took my normal insulin for that of 3 units and an extra 1 to bring my...

Why I think all diabetics should have a CGM

I think specifically the good thing about the CGM's is the real time feedback. I'm with BigRedSwitch on saying that they are not accurate. I wore one a couple of years ago (forgotten the brand) and it was as much as 5 mmols out sometimes! But the dexcom g3 I had, was never more than 2 mmols. Of...

Diabetic Type 2 - Neuropathy - High blood sugars 26 & lower, but mainly high.

Do you know what your typical hba1c is? Have you also checked the dr bernstein diabetes solution book? He reversed alot of the problems you describe by gaining much better blood sugars.

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

Last hba1c I had was 6.1%, which is an all time record for me. I am quietly confident that my next one will be in the 5's as I've improved control even more since then. Only concern is I may have brought my levels down a bit too quickly, over the course of a couple of months from 7 after being...

    Injecting in public?

I usually inject in public and make a sound like i'm getting really high.... just kidding ;) No it depends. If there is a freely available toilet i'll usually just pop in there. But most times i'll just do it in public. I used to be nervous about that, but now I just thinking "Sod you, if...

Why I think all diabetics should have a CGM

We can all but hope that in the near future they will be standard kit for the diabetic. I may be being very naive, but having spoken to a friend who is a fairly savvy electronics expert, he seems to think having an app connect to a transmitter is not too hard as our mobile phones already...

To test or not to test

Can you see a different doctor? I changed mine and she is way better. She has the attitude of working with me, not telling me what to do.

To test or not to test

Ok. Forgive my ignorance on the subject. That really should change, but I guess given the current state of the nhs thats not going to happen. Of course if more type 2s could monitor their own blood sugars then further down the road there would be less complications and less cost to the nhs. It...

To test or not to test

Sorry. That probably came across very harsh. I know you are doing the best you can but seriously, there will be a way of getting a meter out there.

To test or not to test

I would say you need to find another nurse. She is no good.

    New to LCHF

I think the best advice I can give is do it your way and the way you feel is best for you. Every one has a different experience of low carbing adjustment. I reduced mine slowly as after removing a large amount of sugar from my diet sent me crashing. Headaches, no energy, very low mood and unable...

To test or not to test

This is awful. The nhs really need to wake up and start doing something about it. I would do everything I can to get a meter and rant and rave at everyone until I do. Id say find another diabetes specialist that will help you. I remember in the past I asked my gp for more test strips only to be...

Why I think all diabetics should have a CGM

It might be stating the obvious, but having been lucky enough to have had a CGM for a brief time, it's obvious to me how amazing they are. Most notably when you are out and about and it's not easy to check BS levels. Of course, they are very expensive, but so were mobile phones once and over the...

Fed up with constant high morning levels!

Two things I have done to stop morning highs. One is that I used to have quite a lot of protein for dinner. Probably about 7-8 oz of protein. An excess of protein can start to convert to glucose later on and having reduced my evening meals my BS stayed lower during the night. The other thing, is...

    High again after 18 years

Ok. I feel your frustration. However don't give up. Failure is the path to success and we've all been there. There is a reason you are at 23 so think back and work out why. Its happened to me many times in the past and can something as simple as not realising what's in something I eat. Keep...

    Back on Track

I am pleased to say i'm back on to a low carb diet after starting one about 3 years ago. I initially started because there have been a deterioration in my eyes. Of course, after a while I slowly slid off the band wagon. Not completely, but enough for my HBA1C to remain above 7. Anyway, earlier...

Do I have more than 30 Years?

Absolutely. My diabetes control has been mediocre to poor over the 17 years I have had it and minor problems began to creep in. Now I have "woken up" from my denial and started looking after myself. Within a year the problems receding and if I keep it up, i'll be in full health. I have a...
