Did your GP fail to diagnose diabetes?

My first doctor did fail to diagnose diabetes. I had all the classic symptoms and I embarrassed to say I had actually completed a nursing degree and was in denial a little so was somewhat happy/relieved when the doctor initially didn't recognise it. I presented to a GP with a reoccurring thrush...

    New Oral Type 1 Drug

To me that sounds a little stressful for your kidneys, there's a reason so many diabetics have kidney issues later in life peeing out glucose is not actually good for you. I'm suspicious of that drugs long term side effects.

So it's been two and a half years

and I'm over it. I really worked hard when I was first diagnosed, learned all about which foods my body could tolerate and which ones it didn't but yeah I'm just tired and frustrated now. I'm sick of not having the freedom, I'm sick of diabetes effecting my energy levels, I'm sick of the random...

    Bread ... why?

I used to love having toast with butter, a little bit of brown sugar and cinnamon... it was such a nice comfort food haha. Since being diagnosed I do still eat bread but mostly sourdough. As long as I inject, sourdough really doesn't rise me much at all. Other breads though... someone made me a...

    Best Diet for Type 1

Don't feel bad! When I was newly diagnosed I used all the LCHF knowledge to work out my reactions to different carbs and slowly reintroduced them into my diet. It allowed me to work out how my body manages different foods without being confused by having multiple med-high sources in one meal.

How often do you get High Sugar?

I've just started using a libre and according to it this past week I have been above 8 for 18% of the time. In target 73% and below 9% but most of those have been above 3.5 (except for one awful night <.<). I have been above 10 three times this week

Do you people get all your diabetes stuff for nothing?

I paid about $80 for 5 boxes of novorapid and 5 boxes of lantus which lasts me over a year and $16 for a 100 strips. My needles are free. I get 5 allied health sessions (podiatrist, dietician etc) if I set up a plan with my GP and once a year diabetic eye checks are covered too. After reading...

    Life with Libre

I'm still within my first 24hr and have been recording heaps of finger pricks (using an accu-check) to compare my results and hoping it'll settle to something a little more accurate or at least consistently inaccurate haha. They were always lower ranging from 0.5 (rarely) to 4.5mmol out; usually...

    scurvy making a come back

Not related to low carb diet or being diabetic the only person I know who managed to get scurvy was an engineering student... He lived off two minute noodles and whiskey, the doctors took ages to work it out! As for myself I don't really think about my vitamin c in take but I eat heaps of...

What do you miss most from being diabetic

I guess I also miss the spontaneity and not having to take a bag with me everywhere. I live in a rainforest now and I get myself caught up in spiky vines a lot more with a bag haha. There are times I don't take it but then I have to only go for a limited explore otherwise I could hypo without...

Blood Sugar Spikes - What sort of ill?

I feel very tired, irritable, headaches often and sometimes my muscles and joints feel restless or they ache so I guess sometimes I feel similar to what people would describe as ill but generally I just feel a little uncomfortable moreso.

Confused high bgl not going down overnight with boluses

Possibly... I have been raising my basal lately as I noticed my bgl creeping up without eating but I have always been able to use novorapid to correct. It's a work in progress I thought I had it correct haha but we shall see : ) thanks everyone!

What do you eat/do when carb craving hits?

I make a low carb chocolate mousse (coconut oil, nut butter, cocoa powder, cream and xylitol) and sometimes (budget depending haha) eat delicious types of cheese with a couple cocktail onions and pork crackling or vegetable/seed crackers. I agree with berries and cream, dark chocolate and mug...

Confused high bgl not going down overnight with boluses

I definitely didn't forget my basal as I was testing my blood as I was injecting it for the first 14.1 reading. I could have been dehydrated possibly. Oh I live in Australia so I can buy them easily in theory... One of the pharmacists told me that the company just has less than the demand at the...

Confused high bgl not going down overnight with boluses

I am still relatively new to being diabetic (6 months) and was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and what they did about it. The other night I was surprised to see my blood at 14.1 as I hadn't eaten anything for 4 hours and my 2 hour post meal was 6.6 so I gave myself 3...
