    Weight loss

I fully expected some pushback, as I'm familiar with how prevalent these views are within this particular forum. I'll try and respond to some, but as you see, in a short space of time, we have 7 responses in support of these views, with a mix of personal 'anecdata' and links to multiple studies...

    Weight loss

To give a little context for some of the above advice - the strong mainstream consensus among medical professionals is that a very low carb diet rich in saturated fat from full fat dairy, eggs and red meat causes elevated LDL cholesterol, which is an established causal factor for heart disease...

    High ldl calcium plaque artries

I must say, I find it very concerning how pervasive some fringe attitudes towards cholesterol are on this forum, with not just users, but multiple moderators promoting these views. High LDL cholesterol is well established as a cause of cardiovascular disease. This is uncontroversial and accepted...

drink alternative to non-sugary bread, i.e. complex carb drink

I think there's some confusion about terminology here. I believe in the standard usage even white rice is technically classified as a complex carbohydrate because it consists of polysaccharides, in contrast with simple carbohydrates which are monosaccharides like glucose or disaccharides like...

drink alternative to non-sugary bread, i.e. complex carb drink

I've heard of bodybuilders using Cream of Rice, which is technically a complex carb, but assuming it's like eating white rice, it wouldn't be very slow release compared to low sugar solid bread. You could maybe add in some form of soluble fibre to slow things down though. I think most shop...

Does Libre 2 plus "correct" itself?

I believe what you're seeing is the result of LibreLink's extrapolation algorithm, and it is one of my biggest irritations with the software. The sensor reads the glucose levels from the interstitial fluid under the surface of your skin, and changes in this lag behind the actual glucose value...

Anyone having big reliability issues with Freestyle Libre 2 Plus sensors?

Please do tell! Abbott can't tell us off here! I had one the other day that LL told me to replace after showing the readings paused message for an hour, and I thought I might be able to get Juggluco to keep reading it, but no dice.

    New Libre warning

Oh that's a shame. I remembered being able to sometimes still get readings on one of xdrip/juggloco/glimp at times when Librelink was doing this, though that was back in the Libre1 days. Oh and the sensor I was complaining about yesterday stopped completely and switched to 'replace sensor'...

    New Libre warning

I've also started getting this new error message a lot since the latest update, and it's really annoying. I used to get the reading unavailable thing maybe once or twice during the lifetime of a sensor before, but now it's happening many times a day, like they've massively reduced the threshold...

    Frozen Shoulder Surgery

I had a frozen shoulder about 4 years ago. It was sharply painful with some movements for a few weeks, then just restricted movement, which made sleeping in some positions awkward. I got a steroid+dilatation injection about a month after it froze, which gave significant improvement for a while...

    Malitol

A different sugar alcohol (erythritol) has been in the news recently over a new study that found it can damage brain blood vessels and increase risk of stroke: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2025/07/250718035156.htm This makes me a bit more wary of sugar alcohols in general.

    Cautionary Tale re Prescription Charges

One other thing you need to watch out for is that they don't seem the best at updating their records for where they send the reminders. I'm T1, but still need to renew every 5 years to reassure them I've not suddenly stopped being diabetic (I guess the optimism is good!). I'm surprised they stop...

    Pen needle quality

Thanks, but the GP still has to approve it each time I request a repeat, even if it comes via a pharmacy, so they keep changing it back. I'm resigned to sourcing them privately for now, so just trying to find the most economical way to do so.

    Pen needle quality

For decades I was prescribed BD micro-fine ultra 4mm pen needles. I do a lot of small correction doses, so typically inject at least 7 times a day. Injections never really bothered me though and even when I use only 2 needles a day, it was only painful on the rare occasions it hit a particularly...

    Getting fitter

Could also be seasonal. My total insulin requirements change fairly significantly between summer and winter, even aside from any weight changes.

    Libre 2 plus

That accuracy does look very good from those checks. Finger prick results from 2 different meters often differ by more than that.

    Keeping insulin cold

Some interesting studies on temperature degradation of insulin: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7857579/ It seems unless you're trekking through the desert with it for many months you really don't need to worry too much.

    Libre 2 plus

I meant the size of the sensor itself. The 3 is smaller diameter and thickness.

    Libre 2 plus

At my last appointment they mentioned I might be moved to this (from the regular Libre 2) some time this summer. Has anyone here tried it yet? I'd been hoping for the Libre 3 with it's reduced size - it seems from what I can gather that the 2 plus just has slightly improved accuracy and 1 day...
