    Type 2 High BG readings?

If your friend was incorrectly diagnosed and was infact a type 1, without insulin for two months the blood glucose meter would only read 'HI' and not 10-12. Friend would be easily be above 30mmol. However, GP's can and do make mistakes and your friend could be 'honeymooning' but to put your mind...

    Car insurance confusion???

Yes ring them. At the end of the confused type websites when you pick your best quotes it tells you the company and the phone number. Ring them and say you have an online quote but it didn't have anywhere for you to declare your diabetes. They will discuss the quote and you can choose to save it...

    Sharps bin for work?

I got a needle clipper from my GP. It simply snips the end off and keeps it inside. The remaining plastic part if needle can go in bin and needle clipper is small enough for a pocket. Dispose of when full in your own sharps bin at home. Alternatively, I use an empty miniature jam jar and dispose...

    Car insurance confusion???

You must declare it even if they don't ask. It shouldn't affect your price. It also doest affect the price of hire cars (I you ever need one). The comparison websites are a good start. They will give you a 'three year restricted licence'. This means that every 3 years you will get paperwork...

Unable to have induction hob with insulin pump

I moved into a rented house that already had an induction hob (it's brilliant). I disconnect my pump and leave it off while I cook. I tend not to make complicated meals so it's not off for long and I've not noticed any problems with my levels by doing this. If I ever think it's been off for a...

    Silly mistake pumping?

Hi Engineer88 Just a quick message to say I'm sure you will be fine. I don't think you would need to go to the doctors and you should give it a couple of days to heal. Obviously if it doesn't heal, looks infected or is painful then you could consider making an appointment but at this stage I...

    Skiing with type 1

Oh, don't forget to make sure your travel insurance not only covers your diabetes but also covers skiing. I've found using Virgin Travel insurance great and have used the annual policy for two years on the run now. This gives me worldwide cover, skiing and for £11 I can cover my diabetes too.

    Skiing with type 1

Hi Krisjan, Hope you are looking forward to your holiday. I have been T1 for 5 years now on an insulin pump. I went skiing for a week in February this year. When doing exercise I normally at least half my insulin. Thinking skiing was high energy and using lots of muscles I reduced as normal...

What is life like on an insulin pump?

Hi RichWatt. When I saw your post yesterday I was hoping someone else would reply to you as I get far too passionate about my insulin pump and end up writing far too much. As no one has posted a reply I felt the need to say how good it is and to try and answer some of your questions. You...

    Value of Accu-Check Combo?

Hi, hope you are all well. Just a quick question, how much does the Accu-Chek Combo cost as I am renewing my contents insurance and i've forgotten the value of them. Is it that the testing kit is £800 and the pump is £2,500 or £3,00? Or am I totally out... Many thanks, Dusty xx

Thinking about asking for a pump

If the hospital will give you the funding then I'd go ahead and try it! You can always switch back. At night time if my pump (cannular) is connected to my thigh then I'll wear a pump pouch round my waist. I bought it off eBay.com for about £6. If my canular is attached to my tummy, I'll wear...

Do I tick Yes or No to disability?

Ok, so I used to work for a holiday airline as Cabin Crew for 5 years. I developed Type 1 Diabetes in year 4 of my employment in the airline. They grounded me for 6 months while I got stable and proved to them I was "fit to fly". I flew for 6 months before I took voluntary redundancy and went...

T1 and lost in the Middle East

Hi Nikki, Where abouts in the Middle East are you? I'm Type 1, on an insulin pump, DAFNE trained and also 29. I've just had my first wedding anniversary (not trying for a baby but will do one day) and also do lots of flying! I feel like we have a lot in common!!!! I'm in Qatar in a massive hotel...

    holiday

Oh my goodness please do not take your pump off and put it with your keys, mobile and wallet. That makes it go through the x-ray and can instantly break your pump. You must keep it on and walk through the archway which is just a metal detector. If you go through America it most likely will set...

Anxious on one week on Basal Bolus Regime

Hi Stoney, Regarding eating supper and insulin. Take the Lantus out of the equation for now. Lantus isn't supposed to be helping with food he eats, it simply helps get rid of glucose produced by the liver so if Lantus is correct it shouldn't be helping to get rid of sugar when he eats. I see...
