    Is it possible?

I was diagnosed 3 years ago after a routine blood test. I then read up about the condition and looked at my Army discharge medical from 11 years ago. HbA1c was listed as 5.9 so just below pre-diabetic diagnosis level but nobody told me. By the time I was diagnosed I had background retinopathy...

    Good News

Another year and another review. Annual HbA1c came back as 31 (5.0 in old money) up from 30 last year - no concern. Annual eye examination came back as clear. Still no return of the background retinopathy. PN was concerned about the lipid panel: Total cholesterol 6.6 Triglyceride...

    Interesting Gp View.

Like many on here, I tested obsessively in the early days until I had my HbA1c in the normal range using a HFLC diet. Since then, I test only first thing in the morning and last thing at night to confirm that all is well. Interestingly, it does not take much (one high carb meal on holiday for...

    Different GP's and different opinions....

Agreed, I upped my carb intake to over 150g per day for 4 days before the test. It was lovely! Regards Bluebell

    Different GP's and different opinions....

If you can, take your own testing kit. I did, tested every 15 mins and got this: My HbA1c at the time was 5.6. The test was done because, like you, I had dropped it to "normal" in a few months and the doctor thought that I must have been misdiagnoed as that was not possible. The graph...

    Good News

I saw the PN today and had a long box ticking interview. Unfortunately they had not done a full lipid panel as requested and the lab had disposed of the sample. After some discussion, more blood was taken (luckily IF is part of what I do) and I should get the results next week. All I know at...

    Good News

2 of 500mg SR per day. I'll let you know how it goes when I see the PN however, I tolerate the SR well and will argue to keep the dosage as the OTT I had shows that I am still diabetic despite these results. My rationale is that there is evidence that metformin can help reduce insulin...

    GTT test

I did a lot of research on this when I had my GTT. The only information I could find was that at the 2 hour point normal was 7.8 or under, impaired was 7.9 to 11 and diabetic was over 11. My results are below (I tested myself every 15 mins as the nurse was only going to test at the start and 2...

    Good News

I have just had 2 bits of good news: Annual HbA1c came back as 30 (4.9 in old money) Annual eye examination came back as OK (last year some background retinopathy) The only flag was total cholesterol at 6.2. There was no breakdown which I hope to get when I see the PN in 2 weeks as I am...

    bloods all over the place

MyFitnessPal is a good, free app for recording your food macros and even has a bar code scanner to make input a bit easier. It can be a bit US centric (cups etc) but is easier than writing it all out longhand.

    What Now

Similar thing with me. HbA1c of 5.1 so they thought I had been misdiagnosed (down from 7.1 in 6 months). Did an OGTT which was an epic fail. Still diabetic but well controlled with LCHF diet. Regards Bluebell

    Estimate Hba1c From Own Readings

Try the mySugr app. Once you have input enough readings it will calculate an HbA1c. However, accuracy depends on whether you have captured your highs and lows. It estimated mine as 5.4 against a measured 5.1 which I didn't think was too bad as I think my meter reads slightly high...

OK HERE S A QUESTION NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO ANSWER....

Bin the potatoes, crackers, and porridge and make sure the yoghurt is full fat and you will be most of the way there. However, unless you know your HbA1c you don't know how serious your diabetes really is and unless you measure your blood glucose you won't know how various foods affect you...

    Carbs

Don't worry too much about the op. Provided it is keyhole it really isn't that big a deal. I was back at work 3 days later and pretty much back to normal in 2 weeks. Regards Bluebell

    Blood glucose monitor

You need a meter so that you can find out which foods spike your bg and track your progress. You will initially be testing many times per day eg on waking, just before a meal, one and two hours after a meal and at bedtime. For this reason, many of us have got the SD Codefree as it is...

    Keeping track of daily carbs

Try the free MyFitnessPal app. That will calculate the macros in your food for you. 40g per day is a good starting point but the key is to test your bg before and 2 hours after meals to see what you can tolerate. Regards Bluebell
