lantus seems to have stopped working

This is interesting. I was on Lantus for many years, but have now swapped to Levermir. When i was on Lantus noticed variations in readings too. (Although its true to say my general control, and knowledge of what I was doing was worse then). I also had sometimes disastrous blood sugar lows at...

    Obsessed with testing!!!!

I've found the access to Blood testing strips are affecting where I can choose to live! I am extremely nervous about moving to a different area of London, because from what people are saying - it may be very difficult to get enough test strips to maintain my diabetes were I to move. At the...

    How accurate is your meter?

About the Bayer USB meter, I just went to the site to check it out. From what I can see the software is only for Windows PC's not macs, which sets up immediate warning signs to me. Lifescan had something like this years ago - but software was quite poorly designed and it was really was more work...

    High Blood Sugar Levels

It's difficult to understand your question "how long does it take to work?". Quick acting insulin (Novorapid and Humolog) will act quite quickly to bring the sugar levels down. If you mean how long will it take for your husband to learn to control his sugar levels, then that does require some...

    Daily Mail article...

Its amazing how often The Daily Mail has diabetes related articles. So many in fact, that its not unfair to assume that there is obviously at least one person there in an Editorial capacity who happens to be diabetic. You see these articles linked all the time. Unfortunately its in the...

    breakfast readings

The other thing you have to watch for is injection sites. If you use the same area again and again, you get build ups which mean the insulin can be delayed in its release. I've noticed this affects me if I'm not careful.

    breakfast readings

There could be many reasons for this. Do you ever drink the night before? Alcohol affects sugars sometimes the following day. Do you always have he same type of exercise every day? Generally, what other things vary from day to day?

    How accurate is your meter?

Make sure your hands are clean and there is nothing on them when you do your test. Maybe finger 1 has more sugar in its blood that finger 2! only joking - hows your circulation?

    How accurate is your meter?

I've got two One Touch meters, the Ultra 2 and the UltraMini, both bought at different times. They both give identical readings. The Ultra 2 was bought more than 4 years ago, and its never been calibrated (because I've forgotten how to do it) - and its still giving precisely the same reading...

Yeah those are still not bad readings though. Many of us have to avoid readings of 10+ all the time

    diagnosis, not happy

Nothing wrong with getting a second opinion. If you want one, you should seek it. A second opinion, even if it does show you are type 2 will help you to accept it. The important thing is not to worry. If you do have early onset type 2, its not that uncommon a condition in older people. Luckily...

hmm still sounds like your GP dealt with it very badly. Certainly in the way he/she dealt with you, and the things you were told. Which must have caused quite a lot of stress. You have two children, and responsibilities - and have a right in this country to help and support. Remember you can...

Feeling rough the day after a hypo

Just take it easy for a day, and don't stress about it. Yes. It seems to affect your brain in some way. Worst hypo's I ever had took a few days actually to get back to normal. You just feel groggy and cant concentrate or focus the same way. In my days of serious hypos (hopefully mostly over...

    help with my son please!!!

Yes, do your your insulin changes gradually. At his age, 10, a few months of high sugars until you find the balance, probably isn't going to him as much harm as unexpected hypo's. Just my opinion

    help with my son please!!!

Make sure you CALIBRATE the testing kit, and make sure you are getting accurate readings first of all. Yeah, sounds more like his honeymoon period is coming to an end to me. I remember taking almost no insulin during this period, and almost thinking I was cured. You and he, will have to find a...

    Sleep/Dreams...

Wow, what are the dreams about? sounds fun. Psychologists say you always dream when you sleep, whether you remember them or not. The kind of vivid dreams you are talking about I'm not so sure, they sound quite unusual. Low sugars certainly make me more liable to, shall we say -...

Just out of interest - do you have diabetes in the family?

Re: Just out of interest - do you have diabetes in the famil I'm Type 1. No history of it my family at all. No parents, grandparents, great grandparents (as far as we know), no siblings, or cousins have ever had diabetes. Sheesh - I guess I must have done something, or had something as a child...
