I have recently been diagnosed type 2 diabetic and I am not happy but need further information before I pursue the matter.
Age 74 years. Male
I have an average blood sugar reading of 5.9
my glucose tolerance test reading was 11.2
cholesteral readings for many years 3.5 -- 3.2 (current)
blood pressure current 120/60 max 130'ish/70'ish.
Height 5' 11"
weight 12st 10lbs.
excercise daily.
non smoker
diet only no medication prescribed.
I am not concerned about having diabetes as a medical condition but I am concerned about other non-medical problems that come into play e.g travel insurance, personal insurance etc. and feel that my condition was 'diagnosed' too early.
I want to get a second opinion on my supposed condition. Is there any advice I can be given, please.

If you ARE diabetic, an early diagnosis is beneficial, because you get treatment and control started. As to insurance difficulties, You are more likely to have trouble with travel insurance as a result of age than diabetes, if you are not on insulin. Anyway diabetes UK has loads of information about insurance if you look up their website.

Nothing wrong with getting a second opinion. If you want one, you should seek it. A second opinion, even if it does show you are type 2 will help you to accept it.

The important thing is not to worry. If you do have early onset type 2, its not that uncommon a condition in older people. Luckily in our country there is still much help available. While not meaning to downgrade the importance of type 2 - many people on the forum, myself included, have a slightly more life threatening condition - type 1 diabetes. And we are still kicking

If you don't have it, you are also OK. Either way there's no reason at all to think you won't have a long and happy life.
