    Telling off for self testing

The same thing happened to me. I am prediabetic, and determined not to become diabetic if I can avoid it by making lifestyle changes. I went to see a locum GP some time ago, who reacted the same way towards me.Told me angrily that I should never test my blood sugar levels and talked to me as if...

Any Other Former Low Carb Skeptics?

Thank you for asking. I don't eat any sugar or foods containing sugar (with the occasional rare exception). I don't eat potatoes, rice pasta, bread etc, or manufactured sauces, pickles etc. I eat eggs, meat, poultry, fish, cheese, bacon, olive oil, butter. Some semi skimmed milk in tea, full fat...

Any Other Former Low Carb Skeptics?

The theory makes complete sense to me, but in practice I am a little disappointed as I do not see the results I really want. I am pre diabetic, HBA1c 44, and I cannot seem to get it below this, despite doing LCHF and exercising well. My fasting blood sugar is usually around 7-8 early morning. It...

    What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the reply. Walking after a meal is a good idea, though not in the dark for me! I would love to do more PT sessions, but it is a financial issue. I did ask my PT about developing a routine I can do at home, in between sessions. I really would like to get my number lower, and I don’t...

Ok, thank you for your help. Blooming doctors have a lot to answer for, in this case. Thanks for the encouragement

    What am I doing wrong?

I don’t regularly test like I used to. A GP really affected me by her negative attitude, and I lost confidence to do it on a regular basis. Silly I know. When I test It’s usually fasting, ie first thing in the morning. I do not eat anything with sugar in it, rice, pasta, potatoes, grains...

    What am I doing wrong?

I am prediabetic. My latest HBA1c was 44, the one about 6 months ago was 43. I know this isn't serious, but it matters to me as I have been trying to do everything to NOT become diabetic. I eat a very low carb diet with more fat and about the same amount of protein compared to how i used to eat...

    Patient Participation Group

There is confusion here. Bluetit is right, it is exactly as described, an education/support group for those with pre diabetes, to try to avert the onset of diabetes. My research shows that they advocate the eatwell plate style of eating. I try to avoid carbs, hence the problem. I am sorry that I...

    Patient Participation Group

Thank you for your reply. You make some very good points eg being prepared with links to support my views. The Eatwell plate is pretty much how I was eating for years only to develope some insulin resistance, so I do not want to go back to it. The last GP I saw was rude and dismissive, so I am...

    Patient Participation Group

I am prediabetic, HBA1c 43 and BMI of 27. I have been invited to join a group, by my GP practice. I like the idea of the support but am dismayed that the approach is of the Healthy Plate type, i.e. Carbs are encouraged. Should I go and be a rebel, or should I not bother? I would appreciate...

Prediabetes This is my first post.

Thank you for your comments. You obviously know how it made me feel! The Dr rubbished everything I said and the actions I had taken eg testing my blood sugar levels. I am sorry that the response you got stopped you from returning to the surgery, but I fully understand why! I feel I do not want...

Prediabetes This is my first post.

Thank you for your reply. It was a locum Doctor I saw ( the older Drs have all left the practice) and she had an attitude problem. I am normally quite assertive but you are right- she caught me off guard. I was expecting support for trying to help myself, rather than expecting the medics to do...

Prediabetes This is my first post.

Thank you for your reply. I am glad you are also saying that blood testing is beneficial, it certainly makes sense to me. Shame the medic disagreed quite forcefully and managed to zap my confidence. I will use my monitor to inform my choices and hopefully help my health. I have a lot of homework...

Thank you bluetit. I do keep a food diary of sorts but I will make it accurate from now on! I will also try the testing half hourly as i have not done it that often before (only after 1 hour then 2 hours) and see if I can notice any patterns. Good idea!
