How to not lose pump handset?

Bluetooth tracker? I have them on my keys, doesn't stop me loosing them but at least I can "ring" them and find them again. There are stick on ones which might work for your handset.

    A question for those pumping

I opted for the animas vibe and so far (4 months in) have been quite happy with it. Some of the menu options take a bit of getting used to but the ones I use daily are fine. I wanted to have all the functions on the pump itself, that was I can continue to keep a meter in the car/handbag/bedside...

    Can you get??

I was told to try the alcohol hand gel for removing the cannula, which has so far been working pretty well. It only takes a small blob, defiantly a cheep option.

    Carbs and Cals

I've found it is much more accurate if I weigh things out, take ages though. What I tend to do is every so often (usually if I have a few dodgy numbers) is to weigh out a few meals. Mostly to check I haven't changed the portion size without really noticing. Once you've done it a couple of times...

Pump or inject? 9 yr old new diagnosis

Sorry to here your news but glad you found this board. I was diagnosed 3 years ago and the support here has been amazing, so nice to be able to ask people who deal with the issues day to day. I've just started on the pump, just over a month ago now. I'm finding it's going really well so far...

How much did they load your insurance premium, for the pump?

Re: How much did they load your insurance premium, for the p I was advised to insure mine against accidental damage as the pump company don't cover that. Included with the instruction pack was a letter with the value and details, in case it was needed by the insurer but I wasn't asked for...

    Insulin injection

Re: Insulin injection I've had that before, I assumed I'd hit too close to a scar. After two oddly positioned babies, and c sections it easy to do  Good job you noticed though, and got the second dose right. When it's happen to me I have knocked a bit off, assuming I've got some the...

    Christmas...

Bit too early for me, we'll probably put our up mid December.. Outdoor lights may go up a bit earlier but won't get turned on till then. We went out for a meal form my birthday this year, the first week in September. The harvester already had a tree, lights tinsel, the works up! I presume it...

    Levemir problem

Re: Levemir problem Do you have breakfast each day? I would try moving your Levimir to go with that. I found it much easier to remember injections which were paired up with a meal, even when it meant my doses were not strictly 12 hours apart. You can use levimir catridges in the novopen...

    Pump upset

Not sure if it will help but I found there were quite a few videos on you tube, several on changing sets showed people inserting different types of sets. Maybe find a couple to watch with her, I didn't find any that put me off but probably best to check them first just in case. Watching some of...

    Insulin pumps and watersports

I haven't used one but others have mentioned the aquapac case as an option. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aquapac-158-Waterproof-Insulin-Radio/dp/product-description/B0044M102M

I am taking 4 units 3 times every meal , is that ok

It sounds like you are have been recently diagnosed. Sometimes the blurred vision and other effects can happen as your body is adjusting back to a normal sugar level after being high for possible quite a while. I certainly found there were some strange feelings in the first few weeks...

Going on a pump tomorrow. Help with basal rates please

I have to say I left the set up to the pump team at the hospital. I took in details of all my current basal doses, carb ratios etc. I was also asked for an average of how many units I tend to take in a day. From that the pump team worked out some starting rates for the pump. I have heard of...

    Getting my first pump

Fantastic news. I just got my vibe on Monday, though so far I'm just trailing with saline, the real fun starts next week. I haven't set up the food database yet, though I have to say it looks a bit of a pain. I can see it being more use if you are eating unusual foods though, I haven't come...

Best kitbag for a pump user

I'm also new to this pumping thing, lots of changes here too. I haven't really thought much about how to carry all the extra stuff around. I guess it depends on how long you are out for and things. Most of my journeys tend to be fairly short, and close to home so I wasn't planning on needing to...

    New to Insulin Pump

No tips yet, I'm in the same boat. I get mine next week and go "live" on the 7th. Are you trialling with saline first or starting straight away with the insulin? I've chosen the animas, hope I don't regret the lack of remote but I felt I'd probably spend all my time looking for it  how...

    Got my start date

Oh no, having to wait for another 4 people, that sounds like a real pain. Hoping for you that they approve some new pumpers ASAP. I still don't know if I'll be starting with a group, I was told they like to where possible but that they would not delay me too long to wait for a group. As well as...

    Got my start date

I'm opting for the animas vibe. I like the idea of everything being on the pump itself, I like to keep a meter in the car/handbag/where ever and didn't like the idea of needing to carry a remote round with me everywhere. I spend enough time looking for my keys  It also seemed a bit smaller...

    Got my start date

After what feels like a long wait over the summer I now have a start date. I'll get my pump on 30th September and go live with insulin on 7th October. It's a bit later than I'd hoped, having been told it would be the begining of September I've kept things as free as possible thinking I'm likely...

Would clinic give me another pen?

It's defiantly worth keeping a spare one to hand. There have been a times when I've left my kit at a friends and once at pizza hut  and have needed the back up pens. The clinic at the hospital keep a stock and have handed them out when they suggested moving to half units. I also have...
