    Diabetes and relationships

It hasn't happened to me personally but its pretty common. Its hard I know, but then again I understand that seeing a hypo can be traumatic so I understand it. Just remember that everyone reacts differently to thongs & there will be sombody out there who can take it in their stride. xx

Blood sugar was 13 ( recently just had my 32 of lantus) an hour later I took 59 units of novarapid

I take 1 unit per 10g of carbs. So on average 4-8 units per meal. 59 units approx twice what I take for the whole day.

! unit reduces bs by 3. You took 59 units? Is that a typo? That's a LOT of insulin. Never heard of so high a dose . Correlates to eating an enormous amount of carbs.

Over 70 type 1. Very frequent hypos! HELP!

He could easily go into a coma if his bs goes very low. Couldn't your mother do his bs test? I'm assuming he has a meter? It seems likely he is taking too much insulin for his carbohydrate intake - that is the key, getting those things in balance. You say he doesn't have the strength to eat, he...

    Insulin pen storage period

I'm afraid I would ditch them. Insulin must be kept in the fridge. Once you start on a pen its fine at room temp. for two weeks but no more. As yours has already been out of the fridge for two weeks, its won't then keep for a longer period if you put in in the fridge now. I always write the date...

Can someone help relieve my anxiety

You have no symptoms to suggest you are diabetic. Its not unusual for some ketones to be present if you've been fasting. Glucose does only appear in urine once it goes over a certain level in the blood. So the way to tell if a patient is diabetic is a blood glucose test. You could ask for one, &...

Why won't the NHS tell you the secret to treating diabetes?

What Mosley is advocating is basically the Atkins diet, which is EXTREMELY unhealthy for ANYONE!

Did any of you type 1s have a virus before you got diabetes?

Yes I also had a virus shortly before becoming ill with diabetes - 42 years ago. I have been told its not unusual. But to be homest, "seemingly out of nowhere" is how it usually starts. Although being overweight predisposes you to T2, in T1, there's no way of predicting it. It just happens.
