    Type 1s: Hot water

Another 'quack' theory to add to the list! My 'gut' feeling was that this was rubbish, I just had to be sure that it holds no 'water' . Thanks for confirming my suspicions!

    Type 1s: Hot water

Hot water is great for everyone, it helps with digestion but there's no evidence that it lowers blood sugar for diabetics. The general public? Probably helps regulate blood sugars quicker. Apologies, this claim holds no 'water'.

    Type 1s: Hot water

H Yes, it's absolute rubbish. I just couldn't believe they would post this without some sort of conviction. Saying that, I've had all sorts of strange people approach me, telling me they can help me, bla bla bla. I should have known. Cheers.

    Type 1s: Hot water

Is was very wishy-washy, no pun intended! It seemed very vague and not empirical. I'll keep digging. Cheers.

    Type 1s: Hot water

Hi Type 1s! I follow a number of diabetes advocates on Instagram and one of them is claiming that your blood sugar can be lowered by drinking 4-5 cups of hot water a day. I didn't believe this at all and went about searching Google. I found a number of vague American studies but nothing...

High sugars - insulin not working?

I took the basal vial from my rucksack which is risky, so I'm pretty sure that was the problem. When you're at 20 BS and you take 8 units to just bring it down and it remains at 20, you're then vomiting and it's still at 20!! you know something is awry. 9/10 everyone here is bang on the money...

High sugars - insulin not working?

Hi guys, Thank you ever so much for your input. I think I've just had a very weird 3 days. At around 2pm, my BS came down to 9.4 and an hour later they were 8.1, which is a million times better than before. I really do think it was my basal that was playing up because I was taking...

High sugars - insulin not working?

Hi guys, I appreciate all of the suggestions and tips. I changed my basal vial last night to a fresh one, hoping that maybe it was the previous day's lantus that had gone off. This morning, I took 1 unit of novo rapid/bolus insulin to test it to see if it would reduce my BS and it dropped...

High sugars - insulin not working?

It's happened again. In the late afternoon, I checked my blood sugars before a snack and my BS was 12.9, so I took my insulin+a correctional dose. 2 hours later I sat down to have a roast and my BS before were 12.6, so I took my insulin beforehand (carbs=potatoes+yorkshire pudding, not much...

High sugars - insulin not working?

Thank you so much for all your suggestions, you've been more useful than the NHS! ✌. You're definitely right, worth changing insulins. I think it's my basal but if it is, it's acting weird (over riding my bolus). How do I do a basal test? I've never done one before. Thanks again for your...

High sugars - insulin not working?

Thanks for getting back to me. Would my basal insulin have such an impact? There have been times when I've forgotten to take it and my BS increased by only 2-3 units. It's weird that I changed my vial yesterday and it began working but then became ineffective today (??). I changed vials again...

High sugars - insulin not working?

I'm having the same problem as the user who posted this blog. 2 nights ago, for dinner I only had a salad with chicken and a few chocolates thereafter (Christmas...). My blood sugars were 20 which I was really shocked by. I corrected etc and went to bed later. I woke up feeling really really...

    Wheat and gluten intolerant

I have a weird allergy. It's called exercise-induced wheat anaphylaxis. So basically eating wheat + walking, running, general exercise, sets off a chain reaction. I take the risk all the time because I sort of know what my triggers are - white bread, Mcdonalds burgers (yes yes, it's bad...

    Type 1 Cold weather

At the time I was getting numbers like ...9,12, 14. So I would check my blood sugars in between meals and then try and correct my blood sugars by taking insulin, so I'd be at the right level by my next meal time. WRONG! It was an amateur mistake but one I learned from. O.4 was seriously low and...

    Type 1 Cold weather

4.8, that's good! Right? I'd be happy with that :) 3 Years into my diagnosis, I still didn't really understand how it worked, I was just fixated on getting my numbers down and would test all the time and take insulin even when i wasn't eating, sooo badd! It got as low as.....wait for it.....0.4! :O

Anyone Type 1's Between 18-30 Here?

Hi, I'm 30 until Xmas day and then I'll have to ignore thise post :( :P I've been diabetic type 1 since I was 19 (11 years) and I can't actually remember NOT assessing food like some kind of diabetic terminator. It sounds strange but I don't know what I would do if there was a cure...

    Type 1 Cold weather

My blood sugars are often much much better in the heat, but I can't say that my blood sugars are higher when it's cold. I would put it down to maybe staying indoors more, as I rely on exercise to keep my blood sugars down, so naturally I will hibernate when it gets cold!
