Blood sugar levels going in the right direction

Last time I got my bloods taken my HbA1c has reduced to 44. So not far off getting to normal levels. Considering that my HbA1c was a whopping 87 in June last year I haven't done badly. I knew that I had to change how I ate.

Thinking about "going green" in New Year

Hi Not in all cases. I am referring to Type 2 not Type1. Obesity is a factor though, even if it's not the cause, because certainly in my case, I was eating too many carbs and getting the tell tale symptoms, as well as gained weight. Whilst Type 2 is caused by insulin resistance, it happens in...

Thinking about "going green" in New Year

Hi @les74 Yes, I prefer to be relaxed about my diabetes and have the glass half full approach. The problem nutrient that has caused obesity and diabetes is carbs. Too many potatoes, rice, pasta, sweets, cakes, pies, biscuits, and processed ****. Both a mainstream and a vegetarian/vegan diet...

Thinking about "going green" in New Year

Hi @les74 I am on Metformin but this will only be a temporary thing. The changes I am making to low carb and vegan are going to be permanent. I don't need potatoes or rice or pasta. The goal is reversal of Type 2 altogether and staying vegan. I don't intend on letting diabetes control me, I...

    Success with moderate calorie diet?

You just need to watch all carbs and eliminate as much as you can. Also do not skip meals as it'll mess up your metabolism. I personally don't count calories, I just look at how much and what is on my plate. I have seen people on this site say that they've done the Newcastle diet and reversed...

Is this Strange, need some advice please

Sorry to hear that you're having concerns over your BG levels. What meals normally do you eat? Do you have a blood sugar monitor? I use an SD Codefree monitor and I sometimes get different readings at different times. I would just keep testing before and 2 hours after every meal to see what...

Low Carb - explained in 60 seconds

That link makes sense - I will be switching to a vegetarian/vegan diet from the new year. Ideal as this will help me keep carbs low, most of it will be plenty of green veg, some fruit but not too much, limited legumes/wholegrains/nuts/seeds, water, almond/soya milk low in sugar, no potatoes, no...

Blood sugars geting higher despite low carb diet

I think that the butternut squash and sweet potato soup might be the bad boy here. I would omit the potato and try another soup such as broccoli or asparagus or carrot and coriander. If I have any carbs at all during the day would try and have that in just one meal but limited and have the...

Thinking about "going green" in New Year

Thanks for your reply. When you're on your veggie days, what do you usually have for breakfast? If it's a cooked one, how do you vary it? Thanks

Thinking about "going green" in New Year

Thanks for your messages. I certainly am proceeding with this diet change and am convinced that staying on it permanently with low carbs will reverse T2. As mentioned, with the change, I can't see myself consuming much carbs at all, it's about making wise food choices.

Thinking about "going green" in New Year

Thanks for the replies. In answer to some questions, "green" meant going veggie. I personally would severely restrict anything carby so in that sense would only have potatoes very occasionally. Lunch and dinner would almost exclusively be leafy greens, free from substitutes (quorn being an...

    Advice Please

I think you need some carbs, everyone does. I personally wouldn't cut out all potatoes, rice or pasta etc. I would just eat enough to keep me satisfied. I don't know about you but am going to embark on a "green" diet from the New Year and see if this lowers my weight and sugar levels faster

Thinking about "going green" in New Year

So far my Type 2 sugar levels have dropped in last 6 months from a whopping 87 to 51 last month so am just 3 points into the diabetic range. Good steady progress so far. At present still on Slimming World plan and I have to say that I can still eat well on them as you get your Free and Speed...

Is your diabetes a day job?

No I don't treat my diabetes as a job, but a wake-up call as far as control goes. I was diagnosed 6 months ago and my HbA1c was 87. It is now 51. I generally eat much smaller portions and do plenty of walking. I don't "ban" any food or even alcohol, it's just a case of keeping things under...

    HbA1c going in right direction

After last week getting my bloods done I got my latest HbA1c result which is 51. It was 87 six months ago. Still taking Metformin, 4 tablets a day. Hope to get HbA1c to low 40s or high 30s at the end of this course. Still losing weight and exercising, so hope to lose more weight at Slimming...

    Going In Right Direction

This week went to see my diabetic nurse and my HbA1c result has gone down from 87 to 70 by taking two metformin tablets a day. Nurse has upped my dose to double to see if I can get down to 55 round end of November time. Still slowly losing weight, which is a good sign. Generally eating 30-50g of...

Went To See Nurse Got Bloods Done

Went to see nurse assistant to get my HbA1c done, hopefully it'll be lower than my original figure of 87 when I was first diagnosed with Type 2. Weight has gone down slowly so will find out results soon

    Fried breakfast

I have a cooked breakfast now and not cereal as it's lower in carbs. Don't like eggs at all but have bacon, sausages and/or black pudding, and mushrooms. I have experimented and found that if I have two black pudding slices my carbs are around 20g and my BS reading jumps by 3, two hours after...

    Advice on diet

I agree with the replies. I found out the hard way that I had to reduce carbs as much as possible as these are the danger foods. I now avoid rice potatoes and rice and cut back on wheat bran cereal due to carbs being too high. The cooked breakfast is the best way to work diabetics but avoid or...

    Advice on diet

Hi I don't know if this helps but I've cut my carbs intake to sub-30g a day. I would advise you to watch all carbs including complex carbs. You're right to have brown pasta instead of white. I personally just have a cooked breakfast in the mornings and my lunch and supper is purely protein...
