Dreaded Annual Review with DN ... and I'm so chuffed!

Well done, Chook! Don't worry about the eggs. They contain good cholesterol, not the bad stuff, and are excellent for low-carbers. I eat 2 every morning - 14 every week. Viv13

Are these typical symptoms of Diabetic Neuropathy?

In my case the neuropathy that 3 out of 4 Health Care Professionals insist is "diabetic" is in fact caused by lumbar spinal stenosis trapping several nerves in my right leg. It takes the form of numbness and tingling, with a "hot" pain that starts in my right hip and sometimes goes down the...

    Type 2 Medical School Training

When I saw my GP and got my strips back, I asked him who was to blame, the practice or the Clinical Commissioning Group? It was the CCG, of course! So I sent them a copy of my letter to the practice, and got a letter back to the effect that I was to discuss it with my GP and if he was happy...

    Scientists: Avoid fats, not carbs

Did the study say whether any of the participants had insulin resistance? Insulin resistance stops the glucose getting into your muscle cells for energy, and instead stores it as fat - triglycerides, the worst type! I know it doesn't work for everyone, but low carb suits me best - and believe...

    Type 2 Medical School Training

Just an update - I haven't answered my question about GP training yet, but I have had a satisfactory outcome. I wrote a 3-page essay to the practice about why I should still have my strips - and lo and behold! there they were at my next "repeat" request. Subsequently I saw the specialist GP...

    Type 2 Medical School Training

Thank you all. Not quite what I was looking for, so I'll have to go on seeking. One of the reasons I asked was following on from a conversation I had with my young cousin, an excellent nurse with a nursing degree. I asked her: if I was brought in to A&E, unconscious, and you found out from my...

    Type 2 Medical School Training

Hi everybody! It's a long time since I've been around, but I have a serious question to ask: Can anyone tell me how much training in Type 2 is included in a medical degree? I have been self-managing brilliantly for 5 years now, with strips when I needed them and all sorts of help and...

Reading this forum is very frustrating

That's the one! - only it should be part of my signature! I'm going to blame my tools - the only reason I'm on this old PC is to transfer the files I need on to my new one - only I sort of got side-tracked . . . Must be the machine's fault . Viv (cool)

    Skin Conditions & Diabetes

Have a look at the thread called "Red Blotches" in the "Ask a Question" section. There's a good discussion on there on just this subject. Viv

Reading this forum is very frustrating

 Just a comment on the employment side . . . I'm retired now, as are many of us Type 2s, but during my working life I have interviewed hundreds of people for jobs. I would have been very annoyed with anyone who had not mentioned having Type 1 diabetes, if not on their application form...

Any problems with T2 and local anesthesia?

I've had both local and general anaesthesia with no problems. You'll need to tell them about your medication in any case - I had to miss my morning Metformin in both cases. Don't know about the gliclizade. Just make sure they KNOW that you are Type 2 and not insulin-dependent. I've met a few...

What is the best food memory you have ?

"Activity" also burns up calories - every time you fancy a piece of chocolate cake, reach for your man instead! Goodness - I hope this is an "adults only" thread ! Viv Why are my smilies always going back to the beginning of this post??

What has been your experience of taking ACE inhibitors?

My GP is happy for me to come off my very low dose of Lisinopril if my BP looks okay, but last time I tried (BP with Lisinopril 128/73), without it my BP reached 140/100, so I'm back on it again. It seems even 2.5mg makes a real difference. I still need to lose about 28kg. I hope I'll be able...

What is the best food memory you have ?

Treacle sponge pudding and custard . . . but that's mostly because of the man I shared it with (sigh). Viv

What has been your experience of taking ACE inhibitors?

I take 2.5mg of Lisinopril and have had no problems with it. I seem to remember taking one at first which gave me incredible shortness of breath, but I can't remember which it was. I was taken off it in short order and given Lisinopril instead. Viv

    Red blotches

I too have lipodermatasclerosis on my left lower leg, following a bad fall in my mid-twenties, and two bouts of thrombophlebitis/cellulitis in my fifties. I have skin discolouration on both shins but that is more brown than red. The left leg gets redder and warmer if things flare up, but seldom...

    C-Peptide Results are in

Hi! Nice to see so many old friends. I find that low carbs = low trigs, at least for me. I know from personal experience that alcohol raises them. Viv

Anyone giving up alcohol for January>

Hi, CC Yes, I'm giving up - as soon as I've finished the 5 bottles of red I've got left! I cut down a lot in the 3 months before Christmas and felt much better for it. I slept better and felt more alert. Didn't lose any weight, though, because I was craving dark chocolate, which I...

    Grapefruit and Low Carbing

Half a grapefruit has about 4g carb, so just count that in when you're calculating your carb intake. It's not on the allowed foods list on my very-low-carb Atkins-based diet. Your weight loss is good at present, but don't be surprised if the rate slows down - it frequently does. I wouldn't be...
