    DAILY MIRROR HEADLINE

I am for "sticking it to the man" as much as the next person. But at the risk of not sounding particularly anti government is the headline missing the point about personal responsibility and taking control of your own healthcare?

Could anyone offer any advice if possible please?

I have a 2 egg omlete with cheese and mushrooms in the am and take 5.5 units for that. This covers DP and the protein. I start at about 5-6 and end up at lunchtime at 5-6 . I have good control with an hba1c in the 5's and no pancreas due to surgery. I don't have gasteroparesis or at least I...

Is eating once a day sustainable on LCHF?

I'm insulin dependant and sometimes I have only 1 evening meal. I wake up with a 5-6 mmol and take 4-5 units to combat DP. Then aside form tea and coffee through the day I take only my back ground insulin at lunchtime and by 6pm I am still 5-6. If I go to the gym in the morning I will have a...

Gabapentin - Is anyone taking this?

I tried them and didn't get on at all well returning them to the chemists the next day. I find exercise and omega 3 and EPO to work. I still get flare ups especially after any alcohol and the cold weather doesn't seem to help . I would say the endorphins after a good workout do help though...

    Neuropathy

Do you know your bg numbers , have they got better recently . Mine went very quickly downhill which is good but the rapid good control led to horrendous neuropathic pains in my legs. Basically everything from the base of my spin down felt like it was on fire for several months . Now the pain has...

Anonymous Question Am I still type 2?

I started out as type 2. I was fat and over 40 so the doctor said it was type 2 . I got my diet under control lost a load of weight and reversed the condition and put my lifestyle into a place where I was basically acting as if I had more of an intolerance to carbs and i ate accordingly. All...

    High Carb v No Carb

Wouldn't eating less carb and taking less insulin result in a better margin or error being achieved . After all the normal body can fine tune doses but manually doing so it not an exact science . Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

Are DSNs there just to make you feel like S**t?

My GP surgery DSN hates my hba1c of 5.3 and want it much higher . My endo consultant is very happy though and so is the diabetes nurse in the endo clinic. It all depends on whether they are really in the zone or just repeating the same tired old script they learnt 20 years ago... Sent from...

    BG Rise in Exercise

I went weight training today . Had scrambled eggs on white toast for breakfast when I was at 5.7 and took 5u for that. after the training I was 8.0 this was about 3 hours after the insulin . Anyway I thought that technically I still had a hour to go with my QA so I left it and waited another 2...

A friend of mine had keyhole for a subtotal he was in Oxford . And I have seen a US website where the doctor claims he does keyhole for total P.. Might be a newer thing that is coming up. I asked my doc if he could do islet transplantation with my op but he said I would have to go down to a...

    Work after Pancreatectomy

I had 2/3 of my pancreas removed and went straight onto Levimir and aridrA. Splitting the Levimir at 11pm and 11am with 16 units seems to work for me . I was in hospital for 6 days with a large abdominal opening . No keyhole unfortunately . I was off work for 3 months but did a bit of working...

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 2 days ago.

Keep checking in and letting us know how you are getting on. I was really confused when I first started on this journey not knowing the difference between basal and bolus that sugar wasn't the same as carb content!! I thought I would be keeping records for ages and that I would never get used...

Steve Redgrave T2 and straight onto Insulin.

My doctors notes still say I am a type 2 as that is what I presented with on original diagnosis . Suffice to say I have since has a near total pancreatectomy to remove a tumor in my pancrease and I now require a basal / bolus insulin regime but I am still type 2 !! Go figure . Sent from the...

IS VITAMIN D3 GOOD OR DANGEROUS FOR DIABETICS?

You need to get your Vit D level checked by a blood test and while you are at it get serum calcium and PTH. And go and see and endocrinologist . Any Vit D deficiency is easily rectified and can improve multiple health conditions . Overdosing on vit D can be bad. Sent from the Diabetes...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

Today's result was 33 or 5.2. DSN told me I must try to get the number higher and that I should relax control as I must be having loads of hypos . I said I wasn't and what was wrong with having normal blood sugar . :-( Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

Just tested 3.7 - should I be worried?

Levels under 3 without bg lowering medication could be a sign of an insulinoma. A 72 hour fasting test under medical supervision and / or an endoscopic ultrasound would confirm.
