IM TYPE 1 AND EAT FAR TO MUCH CHOCOLATE

Thank you for the clarification. I think you mis-understood me too. I was asking for clarification, you've provided it, thank you. I'm not interested in arguments just understanding. For those on insulin whether you high carb, low carb or somewhere inbetween you still need to carb count in...

IM TYPE 1 AND EAT FAR TO MUCH CHOCOLATE

Sorry? Fallenstar can you explain to me why matching your insulin dose to your carb intake is wrong? Or am I must understanding your position? I eat my fair share of chocolate, curly wurlys, toffee poppets, diary milk bars, etc as well as puddings & cakes. My last hba1c was 6% (in old money)...

    Awaiting my GAD results

Thought I should follow up now I have my results :) The GAD antibody test result came in at 158 (normal range=0 to 5), so that means I've been posting in the wrong forum for quite some time lol They started me on insulin yesterday, didn't post anything here until now because although I'd read...

    Awaiting my GAD results

thanks tree-peony. To be honest I feel better from just writing it all down, reading it back and saying, "yes, that's how a feel" best wishes, David

    Awaiting my GAD results

Apologies for the length of this post. Not sure really why I'm posting, I know I just have to wait and see what happens and deal with whatever the result is. I guess I just need somewhere to vent a little and waiting isn't something I'm good at! lol. Since diagnosis last year I thought I had...

Diabetes UK suggest that the normal range for a non-diabetic is 3.5–5.5mmol/l before meals less than 8mmol/l, 2 hours after meals. (See http://www.diabetes.org.uk/Guide-to-diabetes/Monitoring/Blood_glucose/Blood_glucose_targets/ ) Most people suggest that a reading of 4.0 or below is...

Thanks for all the kind words. With regards to the cheese and peanuts, the reason I'm trying to "kick the habit" is more to do with the amount of calories that come with them. I'm already on a statin so I don't even think about cholesterol :) 100g of peanuts = 604 calories so isn't too good...

    Diabetes tracker software

Although I don't use it anywhere near as much as I did when I was first diagnosed, I do find the free software that Abbotts provide really useful to see my progress. I got this because I was given a Freestyle Freedom Lite machine after diagnosis and you can get a free cable to download all the...

Oh we all have bad days, that's why this forum is so good! As long as the good days outnumber the bad then it's the right direction :) I try not to beat myself up about it, what's done is done, you can't change that but if you dwell on it you just get depressed. I prefer to just say that the...

Re: Diabetes.co.uk PETITION for better access to blood testi ok, thanks that to me is just plain common sense. I can certainly sign up to that! regards, David

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes back in March last year. Back then I was discharged from hospital absolutely petrified, not knowing what I should do and more importantly what I could eat! The only advice I was given was to "eat healthy". Thankfully I have a wonderful (non-diabetic)...

    Thinking about Christmas

Looks like no one has come up with the magic solution to allow me to eat Christmas pudding with white custard then! I guess I'm just going to have to struggle with the smell as everyone else around the table tucks in :( ...although going alcoholic over the Christmas period might be an...

    Thinking about Christmas

I went to the supermarket today and I was looking at all the Christmas food. This is going to be my first Christmas since diagnosis and it's already making me feel depressed! At diagnosis I said that there would be three days in the year where I didn't worry too much about what I was eating...

    Glicacide timing

Not sure what the optimum timing should be, but I was told to take mine before my main meal for best effect... I'm currently on 1x 80mg tablet per day. I also take 2 x 1000mg Metformim SR after my main meal. regards, David

    T2 and snack before bed

I always have a higher reading in the morning compared to my reading at night. I'm on meds, so this isn't unique to those managing by diet alone. I'm not particularly worried about it because by lunchtime my numbers are much lower.

    breakfast

For breakfast I measure out one of the follow cereals: ASDA Indulgent Treats (various types such as Apple Crumble & Custard Crunch) 45g = 20.7g Jordans Country Crisp Chocolate 40g = 26.28g of carbs Fruit 'n Fibre 40g = 27.6g of carbs Sometimes when on holiday I have a cooked breakfast: bacon...

Not Happy with My Blood Sugar Control

I don't believe you have to eat rabbit food to keep things under control. I don't confess to doing a low-carb diet, but I do watch the amount of carbs I eat and tend to "trade-off" carbs against each other. For example for breakfast I have one of the follow cereals: ASDA Indulgent Treats...

    Flu jab

Gosh, I wasn't expecting so many responses - so thank you all! I got my letter for my H1bac and liver function tests this week, so when I rang up to make an appointment I asked again about a date for the flu jab and thankfully they've sorted out a date I can make :) regards, David

    Flu jab

Thanks for the replys everyone. I guess my question was a bit moot as when I rang up to book they only had a choice of two Saturdays in October, both of which I can't make - so I guess I won't be having it this year :(
