    Metformin effectiveness for a Type1.

Just wondering then why type 2s are given it all the time. Lets say you are type 2 with FBG of 15, then getting it lower by 1 mmol doesnt seem so effective.

The Hidden Killer. Type 2 Diabetes.

I saw the top dietitan at my local hospital after diagnosis. She told me to eat more pasta, starches, potatoes , oh and also have desserts , just to use more insulin to cover it. Then told me to download carbs and cals app as a guide. I was diagnosed as t1/1.5, now they arenot sure. IDD though.

I'm still in that 'Oh, bloody hell!' stage.

to some acceptance, I am certainly not there.

I'm still in that 'Oh, bloody hell!' stage.

Know exactly how you feel. Went to insulin immediately on diagnosis, don't drink, don't smoke, ate well, exercised, underweight. It's a feeling that life is so unjust, diabetes is unjust. I hope you come to.so

My friend has Diabetes how close are they to a cure?

I don't think there will be a cure as in something that will eliminate it, but I think there will be a "functional cure,", by that I mean a closed loop artificial pancreas, on the market within the next 5 years. I hope so for all our sakes. It would be wonderful.

Type 2 What happens if I get offered insulin therapy?

Go for it, it should give you more control. If you can ask for accuchek fastclix lancets, you can set the gauge so it doesn't hurt so much and they are self contained, so need to use a sharps bin. Wish you well.

Type 2 What happens if I get offered insulin therapy?

They initially start you on small doses of basal & bolus till you get used to the regime, so you don't hypo. The amount you inject takes a lot of trial and error I've found and you will have to do lots more testing on insulin. At least before and after each meal plus on waking and bedtime. So...

MissMac, what meds are you on to control the diabetes?

When did you start on insulin & how do you feel about using it?

I wanted to find out if all type 2s eventually have to go on insulin or whether you were started on insulin immediately on diagnosis. I am having a great deal of trouble adjusting to it from day 1, psychologically more than anything else. I am still in the early stages of finding out whether I...

How long did you think you had diabetes before diagnosis?

No, I am now moving to new hospital, with an endo consultant who says they need to start the diagnosis again, because the endo is skeptical of what the GP surgery have said. Apart from insulin and blood tests, and of course the dietitan who told me to eat more pasta, and starchy carbs, it's...

Also, and this may sound silly, and I absolutely understand where you're coming from, about weight gain with insulin, but why not just try a little insulin to begin with, to see if you can get the numbers down to below 30. It may sound patronising, but a slightly lower BG may make you feel a...

How long did you think you had diabetes before diagnosis?

You're right, the presentation was very odd indeed. They couldn't work out a type when I was diagnosed, had high mmol 36.1 and ketones, but not in DKA. I am insulin dependent, and assume that's what my DSN classify as type 1, although it's completely incorrect, late slow onset has been touted as...

Hello, really sorry to hear about your situation. You might not be in DKA because you are not a type 1 or type 2 but LADA, or type 1.5. I don't know. Are you taking your medication- byi I which I mean insulin, that would bring high bloods down very quickly. Retinal bleeds need to be seen quickly...
