    Depigmentation at injection sites

Hi @Westley . As @therower said it could be Vitiligo. I have it on my fingers (spreading into my hands) and toes. I spoke to my specialist about it sometime ago and he advised it was Vitiligo but it was harmless and nothing to worry about. My sister has it as well (hands, feet and around the...

What do you do to deal with your feelings?

I woke this morning with a 15 and i haven't got a clue why. Genuinely. It makes no sense to me. Yes. It annoyed me. However, it's just one reading and i deal with it. Give a correction and then monitor it until it reverts back to normal. If you beat yourself up over every "bad" reading, you will...

    Useful apps

Hi @sigita I use the Mysugr app for tracking my BG readings and carb intake. Personally, I think it is the best app out there. I also use Carb & Cals app for carb counting. It gives you a visual of the portion size and the related carbs....handy for those awkward moments when you don't have a...

    Type 1 University Courses

Just wondering if anyone has tried out the online courses at www.type1university.com and what they thought of them. Cost is US$20 per course. I am tempted by some of them but wouldn't mind some feedback before i lighten my wallet! Thanks Mark

    Help and advice needed!

Hi @098. Trush, tiredness, lots of highs and lows all point to poor control. From your partners point of view, he must feel awful every day and he naturally blames this on the diabetes. Rather than focusing on diabetes being a life long condition - that's the last thing he wants to hear (he's...

    Type 1 at school?

Hi @Kneesey. I was diagnosed with T1 at age 4 so went through the whole education system with it. There is the medical side and there is the physchological side for the young lad. Back in my time it was a big bag of sweets and everyone lined up to take a handful except for me. There was always a...

    counceling

Hi @barney70. I was diagnosed at age 4. I am now 43. I have lived (and survived) through various stages of life at this point. I hate to say it but your fear is the biggest issue and i say that from experience. Looking back at those years I believe my parents fear of the diabetes was far more...

    Baffled!

Thanks Lads. This is what i really like about the forum. Prior to joining i would have been left scratching my head. It's great to be able to post up an issue knowing someone has probably come across it before. Thanks again.

    Baffled!

Thanks @azure. Just so i fully understand. Are you saying if you reading is say 5.0 in the morning then your normal bolus ratio would push you lower than expected while if the reading was say 9.0 the normal bolus ratio(plus correction) would not bring you back to a normal reading after a couple...

    Baffled!

I'm on a pump. morning carb ratio and basal rates have remain unchanged for the last few months. Here is my issue. Tues 7.42am reading was 6.9. I had weetabix and raisins for breakfast. Measured the carbs - 40g (2 weetabix and 14g raisins) and took a bolus of 5 units. At 9.42am reading was 6.8...

Type 1 and donating blood etc

Type 1 can't donate blood in Ireland either. Main reason given is low blood sugar after the event. Have they never heard of Lucozade?!

    Feeling unable to cope

Hi @HoneyBea. I know @paulliljeros mentioned it earlier but you should really get the 'carbs and cals' app. It gives you an image of the food on a plate so you can visually compare to what you are eating. It's not perfect but gives you a very good guide. A scond app I have on the phone is...

    Type 1 - I hate this disease

@rachy0121 title "I hate this disease" brought back alot of memories for me. This is a summary of my life with diabetes and how i try and live with diabetes. I was diagnosed 39 years ago this April. I was 4 at the time. I lived through so many advances but the only one i ever truly wanted to...

    Cycle to work raising sugars

I had a post on this a couple of days back. http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/temp-basal-rates.115170/ @Snapsy provided a really helpful repsonse. I now reduce Temp Basal by 50% for 30mins before cycle. I then do a temp basal of 150% for an hour afterwards. This morning i started at...

    So beans don't require insulin?

Resurgam/Bluetit1802. You are both correct. Apologies everyone. I bought a book on the insulin pump last week and came across, what i thought was, this interesting fact! I just checked and it is for a US audience. Oops! Thanks for the correction. I'm off to crack open a tin of beans!

    I'm getting my pump tomorrow

My advice would be - don't try and solve all the issues at once - varying basal rares, varying carb ratios. Do it piecemeal. There is alot of work involved in the pump but it is work that defintely pays off. I have the same pump as you and have been on pumps for 8yrs now. I would be totally lost...
