    I HAVE diabetes. I'm not a diabetic.

I'm fat. I found that the best way to get a job was via a temping agency. If I went for interviews I was never/rarely offered the job - seen as stupid if you're fat - but once my work was seen and my attitude to it, I was more often than not offered a permanent job. Peoples' attitudes to the...

Type 2 - a few questions, for starters...

I've taken to having Staffordshire Oatcakes. 35.1 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams. You grill/microwave/fry them. They are lovely with bacon or cheese or eggs - or rolled around a banana. I've found a lovely well balanced breakfast :D - Wensleydale cheese with mango and ginger -...

    Accepting diabetes and contentment

I agree with the 'great post' verdicts given above. Being contented with life and accepting what happens to us means that we can live rather than just exist on worry. Ailz

    Cant stop losing weight

Just want to say 'Hi' and say that I agree with Viv. You need to be doing lots of blood testing and then go back to the doctor as yes I expect it is possible you could be other than type 2 and need different treatment to what you're getting. Cheers Ailz

    Type 2 - Hello

Hi, Have you tried cutting out lots of carbs - I was a chocoholic - well a fattening food aholic really - and after following Viv's Modified Atkins diet from this forum - viewtopic.php?f=18&t=18803 - have managed not to even think about chocolate for over 2 months. Even when I'm 'wobbly' - I...

wow how many new members ?

Hi JFocus, Sounds like life isn't a lot of fun for you at the moment, no wonder your levels are up. It's good that you looking to get back in control - in fact, to me, having been through a comparable rough time a good while ago - it's bl***y amazing. Hope everything improves for you...

    Best way to loss weight

Hi Crispin, It all depends on your metabolism, I think, I'm doing low carb (about 70 grams of carbs a day) with reasonably high fat and moderate protein. I've wasted my metabolism over the years with one diet after another and can maintain my weight on 1000 calories, but this seems to be...

    Water - 2 litres a day ?

I think I'll stick to drinking about 2 litres a day. I know I feel better when I do. Ailz

    Low Carbing issues.

I've started adding a little salt to food - mainly when I have things like tomatoes. I eat a fair amount of cheese though, which, now that I'm eating no processed stuff, often tastes quite salty. I've just come off my lisinopril - but am testing regularly at home to make sure my bp doesn't go...

    Why I don't.....

I agree with you wiflib, and others, I'm a carb addict and until I read this site I didn't realise that it was even possible to be one. I can identify with the continuous hunger, the overeating, the real need for huge chocolate bars. I could eat a lot more than my hubby. As a child we were...

    Testing related - not major

I too lick it off and then press on the finger or press the finger against something - usually my left knee which is flat due to not having a kneecap (but that's another story lol) Ailz

The never ending debate on low carbs

I was finding it difficult to control my blood glucose at a level under 7 with my 'normal' diet - porridge, rice, potatoes - not much pasta 'cos I've never been very fond of it - but after finding this site I started testing (again -even though my doctor said I didn't need to) and discovered...

    Lemon meringue pie

my brother makes a good lemon meringue pie - no sugar in the lemon bit. If I don't eat the pastry the rest doesn't do too much to my sugars. Now Manchester tart ... mmmmm Aileen

    M&S Lower Fat Milk

I thought skimmed. semi-skimmed and 1% milk was low fat? Is this just a new way of raising money? Ailz

David Cameron is not out of the sewer yet

I remember being told that 'Whoever you vote for the Government always get in'. It took me years to work it out - but now I agree. None of them seem to care much about the 'man in the street'; it seems to be a way of making money - it's a job rather than a vocation these days. - Though I...

    Keeping positive with Diabetes

Now that I'm taking control of my diabetes and learning about it through this forum, I agree. It's gone from a disease where I watch my father suffer from most of the complications and think I'm bound to follow; to where I can see WHY he's got the complications and I'm learning how I can avoid...
