    Struggling...

I used to be on gliclazide years ago - I had to come off it because it gave me hypos and I put more weight on. Once I came off it, I lost a stone and a half without even trying. The way I have come out of high diabetes is through intermittent fasting - using the Jason Fung guide, not Dr...

    8 week blood sugar diet

Hi there, sugarpossum, try this converter http://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-units-converter.htmll for comparing hbac1 in new and old money. Re calories/carbs, the theory is you shouldn't have to count calories if you go low carb enough and adapt to using fat as you energy source to lose weight...

    Share Your Progress!

wow, that is an amazing turnaround, you must feel great. Re your cholesterol results, anything below 5 is a massive achievement so I wouldn't worry too much. You could ask your doctor to break it down for you so that you can see if your triglycerides are going down, as this seems to be the most...

    THINNING HAIR

My hair started thinning before I was diagnosed as diabetic, but it has increased hugely since then. I do not know if it can be attributed to metformin - I take 2000mg split into 2 doses. I take MSM as a regular supplement as it seems to help stabilise the hair loss. I know poor control can...

    Best oil for cooking

I just want to add my vote for coconut oil. Avoid the extremely expensive (and coconut flavoured) versions in the health stores and supermarkets and head to your local independent supermarket. It is widely used in the Asian community. I think ASDA also sell it but in the hair care section not...

Does Diabetes make you itchy ?

100% yes - itchy skin and a higher proportion of cramps are my rewards for high sugar. I really notice an improvement when my BS are well controlled. Anti-histamines sound like a good idea in the meantime...

Hi Jackthelad, I used to get hypos as a type 2 but only because of my meds - glicazide. Since dropping that medication I have not had hypos, just normal hunger. I agree that the banning/deleting without comment/discussion does not seem to be in the spirit of sharing ideas!

    Cholesterol conundrum

At the start he is told he has high markers for inflammation - that had changed dramatically by the end!

    Takeing BG. And carb intolerance

Hi Lilliepop, at the risk of sounding unhelpful, it depends! If I am feeling high sugar after an hour of eating I will test to check if a particular food has set me off. high carb makes me sleepy too. On a normal day I test after two hours. I have had to reduce my testing as my doc won't give me...

    Cholesterol conundrum

Thanks to you all for your replies. I think that this is a case of let the scientists fight it out cos they are still not sure about this. It is interesting that in the film Donal is told that he has a high inflammation level which appears to be the source of the risk for future diabetes/heart...

Advice re management of type two

Hi Just a quick word on why you developed type 2, it could have been an immune response to the stress - it is not always about weight/genetics. This isn't really explained by the docs when they give us the good(!) news. As with everyone else, I do think testing is a great idea to find out...

    Cholesterol conundrum

Just re-watched the Cereal killers movie and the extras available on his website (www.cerealkillersmove.com) and there is a short film of a doctor breaking down Donal's blood results, specifically cholesterol. Donal's LDL was 4.6, his HDL was 2.5 and his triglycerides were 0.5. The doctor...

    Newbie - T2 diagnosed

Hi Jennie, it makes me feel so powerless that there is such difference across the country in how people are treated. It also make me mad when NICE start saying virtually everyone in the country should be on statins! Even more money thrown down the drain in the name of dodgy science....

    Confused and disillusioned

Hi just wanted to add some (hopefully) helpful information as I have used glicazide in the past. I was prescribed it with metformin as my sugars were high (as I ate everything in sight when giving up smoking). Once I got myself together after this, I realised the glicazide was making things...

Me andd my partner are planning on trying for a baby

Hi congratulations on your decision! I am type 2 so I am not sure if my experience is the same as yours, before I became pregnant my Hba1c was around 6 - I think for over of year. Whilst pregnant, I was aiming to keep it at that level. I was put on insulin to help with that and I didn't go...

    Newbie - T2 diagnosed

Love choux buns, best cream bun to eat if you absolutely have to as (comparatively) low sugar! re strips, just had a minor disagreement with my doc about testing strips - she said I shouldn't be testing. I asked how on earth are people supposed to take control of their condition if they can't...

    Cholesterol conundrum

Hi I have just come back from my annual check up. Good news on my sugar down to 47 (6.4) from 52 (6.9) in January 2014. The doctor asked what I was doing so I said LCHF. She immediately jumped to my cholesterol which has gone up to 7.4. HDL is 1.4, LDL 6 and triglycerides 0.8. We had the same...
