Hello. Don't give up yet. I was there too but really didn't want to go on insulin so I read anything and everything I could about how to drop sugar levels. I don't know what your diet is like but what worked for me was changing carb levels. I couldn't go really low as I love fruit too much but I cut out bread, pasta, potatoes and rice. I hadn't eaten cakes or much in the way of processed food for years having had diabetes for 23 years by then. It took 6 months but I gradually brought down my HbA1c fro 68 to 47 in 7 months. Losing 30lbs was an added benefit. It was a slow process but I stopped taking gliclazide completely and cut down metformin too. Anything's worth trying if you really want to avoid insulin and there us so much support on here to help.Miserable, struggling, stress levels UP! 1 step away from insulin injections. Not happy.
Keep testing. Glic combined with a low carb diet could cause hypo's, so if you ever feel a little off, test and check how you're doing. And maybe adjust meds if need be. (I got off glic and never looked back, still on my keto diet.@Clase, my blood readings are like a yo-yo. Seen my DN yesterday and she done a finger prick test it read 12 so has suggested low carb diet. I've just started gliclazide. Yesterday 2hrs after my eve. meal it read 6! Which surprised me! Then this morning before food I tested and I was 8mmol. 2hrs later I'm at 7mmols. So gliclazide is working, which I take with my eve. meal. Also doing a bit on bike machine. 5mins at a time; as it has a knock on pain effect with my back and hips but just keep telling myself 'no injections'. anyone would think I'd climbed mount everest because of the panting. So far done 15mins overall. So slowly slowly does it.
I agree. I managed to give up gliclazide after a while doing low carb. Do keep up your testing regime. It'll help you know what effect different foods have on you.Keep testing. Watch out for the sneaky carbs, the Strong roots hash browns are quite high in carbs! Mind you it depend what you can tolerate that’s why it’s a good idea to test before you eat and again 2 hours after the first bite.Readings down to around 8.7 (better than 11 or 12). Using the Fat Secret App to keep eye on carbs. Starting eating Cauldron tofu, and Linda McCartney veggie burgers and Stong roots cauliflower hash browns. Not as bad as I thought. Had first hypo yesterday due to not having 'enough to eat' at lunch. public transport delays. Thought was going to flake out on the bus! Managed not too. Got something better to eat after got home. Thing is if I know I'm going to be out most of day then usually take food with me. Just didn't think about transport delays. Got caught out! Lesson learned.![]()
