Can intermittent fasting cause higher bs levels until you eat?

I eat at about 12 hourly intervals but have around 1/4 of my daily carb intake with breakfast, as that is what stops my BG continuing to rise until I do eat - of it did. I haven't checked for some time as I seem to be thriving on the 2 meals a day regime.

    Ultra processed food

I suspect it means something like a fanned out flame thrower for the food to fall through so fast it doesn't burn but so hot it is shocked and partly exploded. Having been in the food industry I think that this ultra processed description is totally irrelevant as a guide to its nutrition...

    Carbohydrates

I'm afraid that the short answer is probably not - sugar is a carbohydrate, and it is carbs which cause us problems. With any luck reducing carbs will lower blood glucose and bring about a recovery in the metabolism - for plain ordinary type 2s it is almost like confirmation of the correct...

    Recently diagnosed with type2 in December 2023 with a HBA1C of 98mmol/mol

I can take Metformin - as in swallow it - it is the explosive faecal incontinence which made me chuck the lot in the bin. To be in normal numbers I stick to low carb eating. No high carb, (over 10% carb content) foods and I tested my blood glucose after eating.

    Recently diagnosed with type2 in December 2023 with a HBA1C of 98mmol/mol

Metformin and Atorvastatin had dreadful side effects for me - I stopped them as I was considering topping myself and did HbA1c of 91 to 41 in 6 months, but that was eating low carb with a vengeance.

Chinese takeaway blow-out -NOT good !

If you do the same thing next year - assuming you continue to eat low carb, you should see lower numbers after a similar meal - and long may you continue to do so. I am sure that our metabolisms can and do recover if allowed to be unstressed day by day - so the occasional return to something...

Increase in blood sugar as a function of age

I have found that eating low carb has resulted in needing lower amounts of Thyroxine, which is not something anyone expected, but I stick to my 40gm of carbs maximum fairly rigidly - my blood glucose isn't elevated by a little over indulgence, but it also is not lowered by reducing - I used to...

    Strategies to help when shopping.

A bar of chocolate is not bad - as long as it is the right chocolate, but ordinary chocolate and then fewer carbs for the next 24 hours is also a good idea. These days I can buy 4 bars of the highest cocoa chocolate on offer and then eat them a little at a time over some months - I don't believe...

    Strawberry ribena

It seems to be low carb, so no problem there - but isn't it rather expensive? Perhaps it is just me as everything seems to cost so much these days.

    Statins again

@jaywak I reacted badly to the few weeks of Atorvastatin and Metformin - just one tablet of each a day hit me like a train. It was, however, 18 months before the last niggling pain subsided, and even longer before my memory was anything like normal - I have been remembering things in the last...

Not sure if I can trust my vet

Dogs usually sick up smoked meat. My wicked big black Labrador stole some smoked ham just before I went to make dinner for 8 - we went out to eat and he knew he was a Very Bad Dog all night as I scrubbed the floor. I usually fed him on meat - the tinned food is usually high carb which dogs don't...

    Type2

Type 2 and high carb foods don't usually go together - but the medications you are taking increases the output of insulin, and supposedly also improves response to insulin so doing low carb could result, eventually in low glucose levels.

    Dark Chocolate

You could try coating nuts with the chocolate, melting the chocolate gently and dipping in the nuts one at a time, placing them on a sheet of baking parchment, or using confectionary trays and tiny paper cups with a nut or a teaspoonful of slivered almonds or chopped nuts held together with...

    Tiredness does it stop?

@CarbonSteak You are eating the equivalent of almost a week's worth of my carb intake every day. I think that might indicate where to start to make changes to regain some bounce. I found it really useful to have a blood glucose test meter to compare before and after meal levels to see how food...

    Side effect cramps

When I get cramps it is an indication of dehydration. I tried all sorts, but creeping to the bathroom and drinking a pint or more of water has always worked since I realised it was what was needed.

    Garlic?

I really do not like garlic. Someone asked me to dinner and promised steak. When they mentioned buying garlic I said 'not for me' but was ignored. I took one incautious mouthful and almost choked, but could not spit it out. Having swallowed it in a few minutes tears were rolling down my cheeks...

HBA1C results - confused, please help

@Maggie75 I need to stick to under 40 gm of carbs a day to keep my numbers normal. I can't seem to reduce my Hba1c into the 30s, but that could be my age - just coming up to 73 this April. I do low carb by excluding high carb foods and low fat options. Having seen my grandmother deteriorating...

    High blood sugars

As a type 2 myself, that is the sort of level I'd see eating just about anything with grain. I eat at 12 hour intervals and that keeps my levels as even as they are going to get, from what my meter tells me.
