Anonymous Question Can I eat snickers?

Standard sized snickers has 27 grams of sugar, 33 grams carb content. Personally I'd avoid it like the plague (even though I could happily munch one right now). Also, you don't mention if you're type 1 or type 2, or what, if any, medication you're on. This could make a big difference to how it...

    diarrhea and diabetes medication

I've been on 3 x 500mg daily of metformin for the last 3 or 4 years. There were some problems initially, and I only went to shops I knew had working customer toilets , but this only lasted for a for a few days in my case, under a week anyway. The problem that lasted a little longer, but still...

    Best Yoghurts??

I agree. I do love my yoghourt, and the Lidl one for me gives the lowest spikes, best creamy taste, and unsurprisingly, the best value. Similar to the Muller yoghourt, but without the price tag.

Wnat BG meter do you use and why?

I've just obtained the Nexus GlucoRX via the type 2 testing program, which I'm happy with (apart from the lancing device which is so/so for me). I usually change meters every 12-18 months anyway as technology moves on so quickly, but was sort of forced into buying this one after the SD codefree...

    Interesting report to endorse LCHF?

I read this article a few days ago, and will take a copy to my next blood test results in a few days. My practice nurse even questioned my diabetic status last time as my results were so good. When she asked how I did it and I told here I eat to my meter and eat as few carbs as possible she was...

    how do you accept it?

Hi. I was officially diagnosed last December although I had been aware for some time that I was heading that way. I was glucose intolerant which was controlled by diet alone, but when I was given Simvastatin my BG started rising dramatically, and once the other side effects kicked in I dropped...

Weight Loss in T2 without drastic dieting

Hi. I've been on 3 x 500 metformin since mid December and have lost 15 Lbs. Some of that is the Metformin, and some is down to a change of eating habits and a daily run. Even a small cake is deceptively high in calories. Also, 2 stone since August works out at roughly 28 Lbs in 24 weeks, only...

    Useless Gadget!

Hi. I'm glad I read your post. I have been looking at carrying some sort of IM / medical data with me, because of the diabetes and in case of an accident when out and about on my bike and came across these USB things online. I'm a bit of a Mr Gadget, so these appealed to me, but I'm glad I opted...

    Officially diagnosed this morning

Hi, yes the starchy variety. I haven't eaten white bread for years as I'm not overkeen, except for the odd fresh crusty with a burnt bit on top a couple of times a year. I used to be ok with basmati rice, but that sends me skywards now too. I tried swapping potatoes for sweet potatoes which was...

    Officially diagnosed this morning

Thanks all. I'ver been using a meter since I was diagnosed Glucose Intolerant - luckily my GP is happy to bend the rules a bit regarding putting strips on prescription as long as he can see you're trying to help yourself. I think I shall be heading down the low carb route on this. One thing...

    Officially diagnosed this morning

Seasons greetings! I'm now officially a type 2 as of an hour ago, after being diagnosed glucose intolerant last January. I had noticed a sudden rise in my BG levels over the last 2 weeks, which hit a high of 30.1 mmol on Saturday. Here's to a fresh start!! Steve.

STATIN USERS - QUESTIONS and ANSWERS

Re: STATIN QUESTIONS and ANSWERS Hi all. I have just returned an unused box of simvastatin to my gp's surgery along with a letter explaining why I was no longer taking them. Basically, I was diagnosed glucose intolerant after a routine blood test. I immediately changed my diet and started to...
